Default S1 turbo starting problem

hello all!

My S1 turbo is a b*tch to start. I have turn it over for 15 - 20 seconds at least with half throttle for it to start. I have a feeling its the cold start injector as its slightly easier to start when warm. only have to turn over for 10-15 seconds.

The only thing is as its a s1 the cold start injector is a right slaaaag to get to. (due to the single piece inlet manifold) Any one got any solutions to test this before I take the inlet manifold off to change it!

what sort of voltage at the plug should I e looking for? will the voltage only be there when cranking over before starting?

cheers

Cold start valve operates off 12v, and is only on whilst cranking but it will cut in and out.

Just grab hold of the plug and yank it off, you don't have to unpick the clip or anything.

Thanks lads so the plan of attack is to take the plug off and put another spare plug onto it which i will give a direct feed to the battery, would this make it start easier or is this just going to flood it? Will i be able to hear or feel the cold start injector click open? I was thinking about unbolting the whole injector? But its a right git to get to and its a torx head! (cant use a spanner)

No no no, just unplug the cold start injector (blue plug) and do nothing more to it than this!

Reason for doing so is that the cold start injectors usually flood the engine making it harder to start.

My cold start injector is unplugged and my car starts first time everytime whatever the weather

v6matt, The plug for the yellow ignition relay should be round about the ECU's area in the engine bay, it clips onto the scuttle panel centre support. Dont think it will start without this relay so it must be connected?

Hello all again. I disconected the cold start. Its Still a git to start. Checked for voltage at the cold start. Which i have, but it only pulsed 3v briefly. I have a s2 cold start injector, (white instead of blue) shall i change to this? Or is it voltage problem?

Also i think the yellow relay is for the power to the ecu? So unplugging this will stop the car from running at all!

what about that fuse in the relay under the dash next to the fuel pump Relay andy? mind I had that problem?

also, have you checked the fuse in the fuse box for the fuel injection, it should be in the heated seat position on the fuse box iirc? ofcourse we dont have heated seats but the fuse is actually for the KE jet,

Could be the fuse in the relay.

I thought it was only the mk4's that have the heated seat fuse, mk3's have the one in the relay...............
