Jus a quicky...I had my rocker cover off today and as was poking about I noticed the far right exhaust rocker seemed to be loose? I could twist it left-right slightly wheras every other rocker wouldnt budge, Ithought it might just be the way the cam was sitting at that point but checked the nut on the rocker and it seemed fairly loose! so I tightened it up a bit, not fully as still wasnt sure if it was just the way the cam was positioned or whatever, ive not got a torque wrench small enough to tighten them as per haynes manual, it does seem to be that area its tickin from? any thoughts? suppose I should get a torque wrench and tighten it up properly but I'll hopefully be changing the cam in a few weeks time.

Ah
didnt thinkso, but didnt wanna tighten it up too much
Its quieter but I reckon the cams still worn so still gonna replace it, plus I didnt have a torque wrench and couldnt be arsed turning it so that perticular lobe was at its lowest point to then tighten the rocker...lazy ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
also, you know round the top of the tappet, theirs a dark bit of metal crimped over the top round the edge...well a couple of them could spin freely on the tappet, which sais to me they've came loose somehow

Id just replace the cam and tappets if you suspect your cam to be worn anyway! Oh and make sure you tighten everything down when you do replace it all

Kit is usually cam and tappets. If your lucky you might get new rocker nuts but thats it. Unless you go for a hugely expensive one with the uprated valve springs etc. All depends on what cam you go for tbh

You'll find the cam lobe & hydraulic lifter for that same rocker are knackered, and thats where your engine tap is coming from.
Number 4 is always the favourite, apparently due to casting faults on all CVH's

They burr over where the cams hardened coating breaks through and chews the lifter up.
And yes thats how you should do it.
That one that has evident wear will almost definately be burred, you'll see what i mean

Will the cam be as worn as the lifter?
Im waiting on a price of a cam and possibly kit off a mate who worked for a motor factors but they got shut down and he reckons he has one new in his loft but not sure if it comes with the lifters, if not, could I get any new lifters from anywhere or does it have to be from the same company as the cam?

It'll be fucked mate, i guarantee you that. The reason the rocker is loose is because the cam/lifter have worn past the tolerance of the hydraulic lifter, so it can no longer soak up the clearance in the valve train.
Any lifters will be ok if its a hydraulic cam, but i'd say get Genuine Ford ones if u can, seen some cheap and nasty ones floating about that blow themselves apart
