You're not getting enough pull on the cable then, a bigger quadrant will sort it though i expect

Which spring mate?

Pedal to the floor or a spring on the pedal to the quadrant?

I have the spring fitted also but you still get a floppy pedal, all you can do is adjust the adjuster bolt to take up the slack/play.
I think its because there is no longer a ratchet mechanism to self adjust, everything will always feel a little floppy becaue until you depress the pedal the cable is loose and the ratchet has nothing to engage its teeth into (which is why the spring doesnt do anything anymore).

You shouldnt need the pedal-quadrant spring, that only serves to move the quadrant for self adjusting purposes.

c.fogarty if i were you i would just try fitting the clutch and seeing if it releases ok, you don't have to fit the mod at the same time as the clutch, so you have nothing to lose.

If a standard set up will release the clutch sufficiently you would be better sticking with that IMO

Mine was just bolted on with no mods and have been running smoothly (well, its a paddle, so I'm using the term quite loosely, but still..) for 8 months now.
Dis-engaging just like the std clutch did, no difference.

Hi all, im probrably going over old ground but can someone please explain how this mk5/6 pedal conversion replaces the old mk3 set up?

I have an AP fast road clutch on my RS and im having trouble with the plastic clutch pawl shearing its teeth and slipping after a few hundred miles, i have just busted the second one in as many months

The pedal on the AP website has an adjusting bolt fitted, does this replace the pawl on the old type adjusters? how does this work compared to the old type? do i need a mk5 or mk6 pedal or are they the same? do i keep the mk3 clutch cable?

Sorry for all the questions im just abit miffed with these clutch ratchets keep breaking, luckily it happened near my house and not at Castle Combe

Thanks in advance

Indeed the bolt does replace the pawl, but as has been proven here fitting this to the earlier cars, when the correct adjustment is obtained the bolt is pressing against the quadrant at a bad angle and presents a lot of stress so it ends up snapping anyway

Did you make it to castle combe? Think i may have seen you on the track parade

Cheers for clearing that up mate, was looking for a way to ditch that self adjusting cr@p maybe if i fitted a rubber stopper to the end of the bolt it'll stop the metal cutting into the plastic and breaking it?

Yes i did make it to Combe, and i was on the track

Its not so much the bolt that causes damage though, it just pushes the duadrant at an awkward angle and snaps the centre lug off the quadrant (see the pictures in this thread )

Ahhh i thought so, i said to rsdaz (who i was there with) that the grey/red lights are definately the way to go.

Half of them RSi's on track seemed like right old bangers, there was numerous people struggling to keep their cars idling when they were waiting to get on the track, and loads of them were bailing blue smoke out the exhausts

The one bloke had his mud flap hanging off aswell - couldn't do that myself i would feel embarased - yours was looking

Cheers fella dont know about the other cars being old bangers though some of em are well mint was probrably the heat playing havoc, we were waiting for the RSi racer to get running and a few of the cars were getting hot Just wish i couldve let mine rip but im still running the engine in atm

Can hopefully get this pedal sorted and finish off the running in miles

They just didn't quite live up to my expectations but as im sure everyone has worked out by now - im a fussy cunt The heat shouldn't make them smoke

You can give it a little bit of stick it'll be alright, just don't go go attempting any top speed runs

Nope, still sat there with the roof slashed etc, i put a new glass in cos a fucking cat was jumping through the hole in the window and sleeping in there

Almost definately going to break it or put a 3i lump back in and get rid.

Right ive just bought the mk5 pedal and clutch quadrant on your advise safechav, so it better work

Am wondering whether to try the pre 95 quadrant with the pedal instead of the new one ive bought, the way i see it is after you chopped the new one about it looks the same shape as the older type. On comparing the two the early one looks stronger around the pivot hole compared to the later design

What was you expecting from the parade lap then, RSi's jumping through rings of fire?

Im going by the book with the running in, cos knowing my luck it'll go bang and if it does its off to the crusher

Whats stopping you from getting that cabby on the road? who cares if its got a slashed roof, you never heard of duct tape?

would it not be better to mod the arm on the box rather than the pedal?

just need to braket out the cable further really, seems simpler than faffing about under the dash, i hate it in there

f'cof i never advised it i said to you they are prone to snapping

Can you not read plain english man

The quadrants fitted to our cars are a "quarter" of a circle, hence where the name was derived from. There is no difference between a pre 95 and post 95 quadrant, its the pedal that varies. A post 95 quadrant is the same thing and still has the teeth on it for the pawl. Why exactly are you looking to fit one anyway

Yes i have heard of duct tape, and that puts me in the league with those RSi's i saw that wouldn't idle/smoked/had parts hanging off them - NO FUCKING CHANCE

if i keep it, it'll get repaired properly, can't stand bodging things up

Am going to send my modified quadrant off to have copies made next week.

I'm going to use the one that is in my car (Series 2) at the moment, will post up a picture possibly tomorrow to show you what it looks like.

If people want one they will cost around £15/20
