Indeed the bolt does replace the pawl, but as has been proven here fitting this to the earlier cars, when the correct adjustment is obtained the bolt is pressing against the quadrant at a bad angle and presents a lot of stress so it ends up snapping anyway

maybe if i fitted a rubber stopper to the end of the bolt it'll stop the metal cutting into the plastic and breaking it?
