Default mtx gearbox conversion

has anyone done this and got any feed back etc

where they had the drive shafts made and prices etc

i know one person who has done it but the welds on the driveshafts keep snapping so i dont really want to carry out the conversion if i have to keep welding up the drive shafts

i wouldnt go to jano after losing both my engines because he under fueled them. well pissed off about that. but i had an mtx 75 gear box in my 90's spec rs was really good. i have just broken my car for spears if you want all the bits to convert yours. got the drive shafts and my gear box also has full quilfe internal's

well i wouldnt be too suprised ive been messed about left right and centre. including losing an engine due to severe overfuelling. (bore wash) which was a freshly rebuilt engine. after double checking all my work i bought another chip off a reputable tuner and guess what? problem gone. but unfortunately the rings are now fooked. theres more i can go on but ur right this post is about something else but we are just warning.

Can see where this is going

But tuning aside, i have heard Jano's MTX conversion kits are good, but from what i'm told its a bit pricey.

Just what ive heard on the grapevine though, so not set in stone

i know this isn't about fueling but i just wanted to say that i found out that my engines weren't underfueled because i was told today that thay both went due to being badly put together from the start.
so this had nothing to do with jano at all

really sorry if i have miss lead anyone

im not exactly sure m8,you hear people sayn that equal length shafts eliminate tourqesteer, but the box i have fitted has no lsd,bt i have also built another mtx with quaife lsd,the plan is once car is mapped i will drive it the way it is to see what like, then i will change it with lsd box so i can feel difference for myself and make my own conclusion, car has been ready for last 5 weeks but i am struglin to get it mapped as ava are so busy im having to wait a lot longer than i would like but alan said it will be this week comin so fingers crossed it is. because 10psi is no good
i have also fitted t34 and full 3 inch zorst and jamsport 3 inch downpipe that bolts to 63 exhaust housing,so hopefully see some gains with these bits and bobs.thats why its goin ti take full day at ava to be remapped.
but even driving car at moment car feels much more stable, tighter and i would say better all round,no torque steer at all,is only 10 psi though,so wee have to wait and see.
will post few pics if anyone want to see.

it it just a case of angle grinding a slice and tapping it all down or do you have to cut out a big chunk do you have any pics or the bits that have to be cut before and after and what where the drive shafts made from and where where they welded etc

hi m8,the mtx box is bugger to fit but compared to 6 speeder its a lot easier, the box is totally different design, but my opinion is anythings possible,so goin to see how i get on with mtx, never know 6 speed may make its way underbonnet at somepoint just to see what like.

i cut three sides then tapped it in so it is angled, this gives more than enough room, plus keeps original metal and is pretty straightforward

i made shafts myself ,apart from the intermedite fixed shaft,i had to make bracket to hold bearing to zetec block,as no off the shelf items fit, wasnt to hard though, both outer shafts are exactl same size, took lot time and machining, but they are 36mm thick and tig welded then balanced.

Not trying to hyjack the thread, but for peoples referance who want to fit the Getrag six speed from the ST170.

List of mods are:

Bolt in the whole gear lever assy including cables and cut a hole in the bulk head for cables - easy
Fabricate an inner wing gearbox mount - med
Fabricate a lower torque reaction mount in the middle of passenger footwell (approx) - harder
Shorten outer driveshafts and change hub spline for what hubs been run, sleave or get spec ones made - hard
Bellhousing bolts straight on if using the 2 piece Zetec sump - easy
Modify the flywheel to correct thickness as gearbox bellhousing and input shaft position was desinged for a thick double mass flywheel - med
Convert to hydraulic release bearing (no provision in bellhouse for mechanicl release bearing) - hard
Speedo drive - ?
Reverse lights - easy

Simon.

ps. looking forward to rolling road day in July.
