Default Manifold Gasket

Mine is leaking slightly as you can hear the engine 'ticking' and can feel a slight leak around one manifold tube where the gasket has broken down a touch.
Been to Ford and they can get a gasket, but can't get the nuts anymore They didn't have any studs in stock neither ot see if they could find a suitable alternative

Chances are the studs will come out anyway as the nuts will be corroded on after being fitted for years. Question is: if one does come off ok are there any replacements people have used before or know any shiny shit available they've seen used before?

Full kits on ebay, but over-priced imo £27.
Gasket was around £10 from Ford with nuts originally priced around 30p each when available.

Marc LJX Do you have the receipt for finis codes.
He was looking in the mk3..perhaps he might have been better in Mk4 instead.

I checked the Mk4 1.6 mfi engine stuff and got some different numbers.

Stud: 6185201
Washer 1465430 (same)
Nut: 1549071
Gasket: 6591017

A 1995 Escort Zetec came up with

Stud: 6775621
Washer/nut combined: 6518102

Guessing the gasket will be different so didn't note that.

what a piss take!!!!!! £10 for a gasket

Get to the local factors shawn.......and as for the studs, even if they do come out with the nuts, they are easy to spin off, refit the stud and the jobs a good un ]

Of all the times ive had exhaust manifolds off CVH's i've never once needed to use new studs or nuts!

If I can get new ones then I'd like to fit them. Part of it is incase anything goes wrong and I need to replace one. If I have the bits then it's fine. If 1 is broken and I can't get a new one then I'm buggered.

Obviously new ones will look better than the crusty old corroded ones as well.

Are all CVH gaskets the same then? Someone else suggested Kwik-fit for the gasket and nuts... (they won't be doing the job btw ) as they are a cheaper alternative. As long as any cvh gasket is the same then I'm happy with fitting non-Ford stuff if Ford cannot supply.

Not all CVH gaskets are the same, but i dont know how many different ones there are or what models they come on.

Ford once sent me a wrong one and it had square port holes, as opposed to the big round ones on the turbo gasket. When it was offered up against the manifold parts of the gasket overlapped the ports...

Shawn, they may look good but as soon as you get the engine hot the colour will burn off and they look shit anyway

The gaskets aren't all the same, the Ford exhuast gasket is very good quality to be fair, but the non ford ones do the job well and aren't £10 each either

But they won't look rusty and corroded like they do now.
I might give the motor factors and kwik-fit a visit....

I wouldn't even entertain the thought of kwik fit, if motor factors can't sort you out i doubt very much those monkey boys can

DangerChav, you think 10 for the gasket is pricey?!

It's a proper multilayer reinforced item specific to the turbo cars, not a bit of paper!

I'm all sorted.

Spoke to another lad at Ford yesterday, one quick phone call..yes you can get the nuts. It will all be here tomorrow morn.
Collected this morning. 1 gasket, 8x nuts, studs and washers. Stud are new style brass colour with star on the end (look smarter than originals) and steel washers/ nuts.

Just got to get them fitted now.
Will post a pic when I get round to uploading.

As per that mate. Same numbers I had.
Don't let them fob you off: you can definately still get the nuts: as I've proved today.

Can't remember tbh
Think it was to do with helping seal on any head/manifold imperfections and externally a water repellent to aid non-corrosion properties.
There's none around the ports themselves so it isn't a problem.

did someone else fit it for you then?

Doing things like that just makes the engine messy though and means you cant even touch it without getting greasy hands

Plus all the grit and dirt will stick to it

Yes, someone else fitted it as I don't have the tools necessary if the nuts/studs didn't come out easily in one go, so got my normal RS people on it. They've had numerous RS's down the years (Ray's had one of every type and currently owns modified Esc Cos and RS500). He also knows and has done work for Grahame Goode so they (he and his daughter who's also had about 6 RST's inc a cabrio RST at the minute)know what they're doing and I trust them 100%.

The old gasket had broken down & wasn't a simple "tighten the nuts" job.
If it burns off then it'll soon be gone and you won't have to worry about it being on there anymore will you!
