Pottering about town round-about half on the gauge but get it on the motorway and it'll sit around 1/3 providing you're not giving it beans

About 1/3 normally. Any more and I put my fan on. altho I usually drive with window open and heater off but on 'hot' to clear some engine bay heat. Also serves to warn you if it goes cold you have a water air-lock/ no water in the header

I just took mine out, cruising along the motorway I was seeing 82°c and when in traffic it went up to 94°c when both fans come in.

Forgot about that light: I normally have a look in there anyway first time I get in as it lives in the garage with power supply connected so have to open the bonnet to disconnect that, so have a quick peek to check the fluid is ok.
..altho I am right on the air-lock
Don't you go adding me to your sig "Mk4 wanna be neither" ya cheeky coont.

it'd be pretty hard to get an air lock without losing coolant

Might lose enough to get an air-lock, but not enough to bring the warning light on, so have it

never........that expansion bottle is the highest part in the cooling system, it has to drop below the sensors level before it can introduce air into the system

so 'ave that
