Default s1 gearbox in a s2?

Hi guys, will a lsd s1 gearbox fit into a s2 with no problems?

I know that the gear ratios are different... Are the s1 gear ratios better ?

S1 ratio's are much shorter AFAIK.

Will accelerate like fuck. I had one in mine once, christ, it would thump the 5th gear limiter in well under a mile.

yes will fit,
but iirc you need to change flywheel and clutch to 200mm instead of 220mm,

You won't need to change clutch/flywheel.

As for whether or not you should do it. It depends on what you want out of the car.

Shorter gearing will be nippier and faster acceleration.

Longer gearing will be slower accelerating, but faster top speed.

Also, longer gearing means lower RPM at a given speed, so less 'noisy' to drive.

While we are talking gearboxes, ive heard some people use diesel boxes in their S2's.

Whats the reason for this?

But you can always put one in. There's no difference in the Diesel boxes besides the LSD and ratios so it's a straight drop in replacement.

About the faster acceleration with shorter ratios, ... I'd like to dissagree. You just need to change more often which results in more time lost in gearchanges. Turbo cars have such wide power bands anyhow so close ratios are not really needed. For example 0-60 often goes the fastest with one single gear.

It'll drop straight in with no mods required.

But as Christian says they are very short, mine tops out at just over 130 in 5th

When I got my RST, I was so amazed with the LSD that for a moment I was even thinking of fitting a Quaife ATB diff to my Mondeo MkII V6.

It's not only about burning less rubber when you launch it. There's just so much more grip through corners. Instead of understeering into a tree it literally pulls you through the corner.
