Whilst removeing the head today one of the bolts snapped and im left with a stump. Anyone know how I can get it out without makeing it any worse?

last time it happened to me it just turnded out with fingers when the rest of the head was off

The bolt snaped stright away whilst undoing it, it hasn't losend it off at all so it seems to be stuck solid. I have a few cm of the broken bolt sticking out of the block.

Weld a nut onto it. The heat of the welding process will make it come out easily when you screw it out from the nut.

or you can get a set of stud extracters by draper and it'll come out a treat.

id weld it before i use an extractor.

The draper ones are a bit pony do yourself a favour and get one of your local snap on man/ cost you about 6 quid.

Or file flats onto the stud then use a spanner.
Try to get it out as it is first: drilling & extracting is last resort if there's an alternative

There's a product called freeze-spray I sometimes use at work for stiff bolts. Spray this on and it contracts the item enough to break any adhesion.

Thanks for the help guys! I'll try to get it out on Sunday and let you know how it goes. Is it commen for head bolts to snap, I thought it was bad enougth the head gasket went?

usually "ive done loads" if you tap with a hammer they will turn out with mole grips BASH IT HARD THOUGH

yeah it should come out by hand when the head is off as they dont actually bottom out in the block its just a bolt wound in to a thread. so head off wack with hammer pair of mole grips job done

Lol got a call offering a turbo engine from a runner for not a lot more than your block stu, couldn't turn it down cause the spares will pay towards the build!

Start stripping other night, and a head stud snapped. Drilled centre out and hammerd a screwdriver in with spanner on the end, came out eventually with heat. Need to make a list of parts this week for the build.
