Or file flats onto the stud then use a spanner.
Try to get it out as it is first: drilling & extracting is last resort if there's an alternative
There's a product called freeze-spray I sometimes use at work for stiff bolts. Spray this on and it contracts the item enough to break any adhesion.
An example: Maplins, £6

Is it commen for head bolts to snap, I thought it was bad enougth the head gasket went?

yeah it should come out by hand when the head is off as they dont actually bottom out in the block its just a bolt wound in to a thread. so head off wack with hammer pair of mole grips job done

Lol got a call offering a turbo engine from a runner for not a lot more than your block stu, couldn't turn it down cause the spares will pay towards the build!
Start stripping other night, and a head stud snapped. Drilled centre out and hammerd a screwdriver in with spanner on the end, came out eventually with heat. Need to make a list of parts this week for the build.
