Default 1mm CVH Overbore. Who runs this? Comments Please.

Hi,

Making good progress, just pistons to buy. Who runs their 1.6 with a 1mm overbore i.e 81mm. Just wanted to ask if there has been any problems with removing this much material from each bore.

Aiming for decent power, 250-300. and don't want to risk weakening my block by removing too much. Should I just take it to 80.5mm??

Thanks
Dan

My S2 only had 0.5mm overbore.
Not sure if piston prices are anymore for the bigger ones or if it would take too much off? Why are you going 1mm oversize?

Hi mate,

To suit these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...8547&rd=1&rd=1

I've put up other posts about the piston and seller but noone is replying, think I'm going to buy them anyway. The seller assures me they are manufactured by wossner.

Are you really sure you want to spend near enough Ł500 with so little information on them? Why not spend another Ł50 and get something custom made by a quality piston company. Then you will know exactly what you are getting.

+1mm

Driven daily, done 40 odd k, 2 bar plus boost.....

You won't have a problem. The block is very very strong.

Like whom??

I'm all up for that. From the posts I've read all there are cvh wise is Ross (Ł600) from the states, Genuine Wossner (Ł500) from germany, Possible wossners (Ł500) off the ebay guy, Cosworth (ŁŁŁ) Rocking horse shit or Accralite (Ł500) from burtons but are only 8:1. If I'm buying forged pistons there's no way I'm having them skimmed.

Aiming to build a strong an engine as possible (low comp) so I have no worries in the future when making other mods for more power.

Spec for this year: BOLD, items need to buy

1600 CVH
Lightened/balanced bottom end
Shotpeened crank
Low comp pistons
Steel H-Section Rods
arp conrod bolts
Stage 3 Big valve head
Newman Cam and solid lifters

2wd Cosworth T3 Turbo
-31 actuator
pro alloy front mount intercooler
Alloy rad
Air filter
Ap organic clutch
OFAB EFI Management
Beige 701 Injectors
Magnex 2.5" Bore Exhaust
New Ford OE Oil Pump
New Ford OE Water Pump

I already know the management isn't capable of producing the power so will be the 'future mods' I was talking about. I've said that in my resto too. But I want the strong engine for when I do get a decent set up, along with a better clutch before you say so...

the management is fine, its the injectors that wont supply the fuel for that power level, the beiges will max out around 230bhp

ive done a 2mm overbore,(+88 stroke=1858cc) which is 1 mm either side, the cvh block is beefy so Im told by the engine builder who did the rebore. he's done alot of cvhs including about 40 long stroke conversions running +220 bhp using a 3mm overbore with no problem.

Champion,

If I'm lucky with a recent pm I may only have to go to 80.5 after all with a set of pistons.

You will hit water well before you get close to 86mm bore.
The cylinder wall thickness is paper thin at 82mm.
