What about a nice 1.3 l crossflow from a 1987 escort??Easy to fit, plus very reliable as no turbo or management to worry about, plus the extra advantage of good fuel economy!!

CVH turbo built right.

Not a fan of the ZVH conversions although they deliver the goods.

Zetec turbo is only really viable if your minted. I would say 8 out of 10 Zetec turbo conversions never see the road as people underestimate the cost involved in doing them.

Why would anyone want half a good engine? (ZVH)

it depends upon your budget.. if its reasonable I would do a CVH as you can get reasonable performance out of them at reasonable costs, if you have a decent budget I would go with a zetec turbo as ultimately its a more modern and better performing engine providing that you do a quality build.. Do not keep the standard pistions and rods or use a decomp plate or skim the pistons you because when you start upping the boost the engine will not be able to cope.

The whole ZVH thing misses me completely as the standard 16 valve zetec head is good for flowing to 300+ bhp from standard while the porting required to obtain the same level of flow from a restrictive CVH head makes it costly... when you take this in consideration with the additional work required to block oil ways etc and the fact that this conversion has no real advantage over a full zetec I really really do not understand why it is done so often

if u've got the money or means, or both then its gotta be the ZT, if not the cvh will still be a very good motor if built right

Im going zvh as i buying a zetec bottom end that is welded up and i cant be arsed to strip it down, drill out the welds(assuming thats what needs doing) fit a standard zetec head and then efi manangement.would rather get a good cvh head and just keep it mfi for the moment till funds allow then full blown zetec with something like omex.

i have a 2 door 1.3 1987 ohv estate and luv the simple mechanics of if, but ive been told my engine is the valencia and not a true xflow because ford never fitted the true xflow to a mk4 even my early e-reg . there is a number on the block 86BM6015BA IF ANYONE WANTS TO UPDATE ME TO ITS FUTURE POTENTIAL. just a hobbie car not my everyday runner and would like a little more poke without to much complications.

You have to ask what you using the car for? Track slag!? Show bitch? Concorse? Daily driver?

For a daily drive I would go for a plain zetec... Will run forever!
