Default Smoking out of chamber 1!!!

Hi.

Has anyone had this happen to their ERST's

My car has developed a load of smoke out of the exhaust on tickover and also when you remove the 1st spark plug (no.1 chamber) there smoke coming out of that too!

Any ideas would be handy

Done comp. test, number 2 was down a little, not loads!

If it is a valve guide that has slipped down, will the head need to come off??

Also there is water coming out of the exhaust, not condensation coz I can drive it for 1 hour for eg. and turn off, then turn back on and rev it a little and more water...

Cheers for the help!

Well, i'll say this much, you would have to be losing a hell of a lot of coolant for it to make it to the tail pipe.

Its perfectly normal to switch the car off and then get moisture on re-starting, to do with evaporation and condensation

Whip all your valve stem seals off and have a look, you will soon see a dropped guide, and then while you are there fit a new set of stem seals, only cheap

Turbos.....depends what you are after really. If you're buying new it would be silly not to buy a turbo with a 360 thrust bearing though

Hi mate,

got the head off today, in terms of taking the valve stem oil seals out, could you talk me through it over this post? I'm no mechanic, and I think I'd struggle without a bit of advice.

With the head off, from underneath the valve guides can be seen? If so mine don't look like they've slipped down. Any other advice on why it could be smoking out of chamber 1? Could it be piston rings?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

One very disgruntled RS owner!

have you done a compression test on it yet?

I presume you do know the valve stem seals come off with the head on the car?

yeah, done compression test. Was all fine apart from cylinder 2 was down a little...

Yeah also know you can check oil seals with head on, but I knew I'd end up dropping one into the engine and also Ive had to take my turbo off as I need a new one! One expensive hobby!!!

Can you walk me through it, step by step?

Also though head gasket may have gone, but it hadn't!!! Never mind, its not my everyday car, by bike is!

Thanks for your help

Ummmmmm, what were the compressions firstly?

You'll need a tool to remove the valve springs obviously
