You must have it wired wrong if it works with the ignition off....

You need to put the sensor wire as far away from the HT leads as possible. It's the interference that makes it go blank.

this is the thing the unit is not powering down the backlight is still on , its the digital display that goes...

the sensor is mounted very closs to the throttle body so not near the HT leads

How many wires has the unit got, and where does it say to connect them to and what is each wires label/function?

unit only has 2 wires, one earth and one positive.

wired the positive to both ignition and perm live just see what happens.

had a PDF file with all the instructions so cant really go wrong with the colour of the wires.

going to re-wire before its sent back just to double check.

Lol, 2 wires

I don't think you are wiring it wrong then

So, you connect it up, and you say it works until you switch the ignition on?

it works with the ignition on, when you run the engine the display goes.

i think it may have something to do with the voltage going to it?

Ok

so, with the car running, what happens if you connect it across the battery directly?

It dosen't power down all togheter, the display goes blank but the light is still on. This is caused by HT interference, so you need the either place the sensor wire as far away from the HT leads as possible or shield it. I have the same gauge and had the same problem, when I routed the sensor wire differently, it worked without going blank.

Well if that fixed your problem then fairplay, but the words "cheap" and "crap" spring to mind

No offence like
