The best induction kit is the stock airbox.

Best to get a standard airbox with a k&n panel fillter in because the cone fillters suck in alot of hot air which you dont want.

k&n doesnt come with a heat shield but you can get one from AS autospecialists which will help reduce warm air intake.
the only place to get a GRS from is GRS direct

Default induction

standard airbox with k&n panel filter all day long, however drill the airbox and have an air duct ducting air directly to the box and you cant really do better than that.

made up a bracket to fit a cone filter behind the passenger side headlight , nice big reinforced hose to the turbo inlet , good inductiom noise!

There REALLY is no better filter for an MFi RST than the standard Ford airbox with a K&N Panel filter in it.

The engine bay of any turbo car is VERY hot, but the RST engine bay is also quite tight, so suffers even more.

A heat-shield is pointless for a cone filter as the temperature of the whole engine bay is hot.

So, if noise is more important than performance, then fit your induction kit and also put a dump valve on.

I also use a GpA filter, but mine is tucked down low. You have to take care not to have it so low that it sucks in water as that would end in tears!!

How so? We have given advice according to our own experiences. In my opinion K&N make THE best filters. Full stop. But why you would want to run a filter that everyone has told you will cost performance god only knows.

Your choice.

It's the same as if someone came on here saying that they want to machine 5mm off their pistons. It would only be right for those better educated among us to advise against it.

I find K&N's left far too much shit through, you can see the pitting on your compressor blades..

I prefer pipercross..

In actual fact, in my experience it's the foam filters that let too much through. HKS being the worst offenders.

Providing your K&N is in good condition and you keep it cleaned/oiled with the right stuff it will be superb.

K&N over pipercross anyday from my experiance. pipercross tear far too easily and as Christian says foam filters seem to let more dirt particals through.

right what about this ....

if your have a front mounted intercooler what does it matter about the heat ?? think about it the turbo is sucking the air into the turbo from the airfilter then it sending it around the intercooler(front mounted) for cooling and then into the charge carrier to the throttle body ....so surely all u want is some thing that as derestricted as possible so that the turbo can suck as hard as possible ?? i know in an na car with no intercooler its very important but in a turbo car the turbo is roasting anyway so it wont matter how cold the air into it is bacause once its in the turbo its gonna get crazy hot anyway ??

i may be totally wrong and if i am please explaine cos its intresting

It's not a fair point, it's complete rubbish. The air temperature that enters the engine is the total of everything before it, so the hotter any one part is (turbo, intercooler, ambient, etc.), the hotter the total will be.

as far as induction kits go think K+N's do the best job of filtering etc but i love the sound of the others such as the pipercross ones

i think u'll find the temp of your air being sucked in will proportionally effect the temp of ur turbo itself therefore causing the air to be hotter once entering the intercooler and exiting the intercooler.
essentially the denser the air in the whole system the better otherwise you'll get accumulative temperature increase.

hello chaps dont want anyone to think im hijackiing this thread but i too was going to go down the route of drilling the airbox as i remember reading a few years back in performance ford that this is a very good option (cheap too),my question is whereabouts on the airbox do u drill the holes and how many .any pics would b great if anyone has any back to topic

don't bother drilling it, take the top off, open the round whole so its then the entire front of the the airbox and add a K+N panel filter.
if u drill it u risk getting water into the system due to the positioning of the vent on ur bonnet

this is what i shall be doing in the near future, i think T28 RST has done a similar thing.

Also by getting rid of the metal plate under the vent should help cooling surely?

Getting rid of the metal plate will make it prone to take water in.

you don't need a metal plate if you have a standard airbox though do you.....?

i would have thought so as it lets more air under the bonnet on the move, doing it this way it shouldn't let any more water in than the standard airbox does
