Default TURBO LAG/STARTER MOTOR

hi guys right ive kind of got 2 qustions 1st is the amount of turbo lag i have the boost is coming in about 3.5k then it boost at 18psi is that normal its a standard turbo with moddified impella blades and 360 thrust bearings can this be sorted through a RR set up?

2nd question is about the starter motor are the prone to stick on sunday i went the leicester and i stoped in a layby turned the car off and then it wouldnt start all the lights came on etc, so i had to bump start it, is it easier to get a new one or is there anythin else i can do to the one i have??

cheers people

Sounds laggy to me. Mine would be well on the way to full boost by then, but mine is a slightly bigger turbo! I reckon its a poorly adjusted actuator or an air-leak. That should be able to be sorted OK with a proper set-up.

Regarding the starter motor, usually once they start sticking they are on their way out anyway, so not worth pissing around with. I would just replace it. I bought a remanufactured Bosch one for under a ton and it is the tiny gear-reduction one too, so will last longer.

so your sayin the lag is because of heat, what about if i heat wrap the manifold etc, or will a heatr shild work just as good?

No, I think zippyobrien is referring to heat-wrap, but calling it 'lag' to create a confusion between the wrap and the other part of your question. Heat isn't directly related to turbo-lag!!

Your Turbo-lag is almost certainly down to the reasons I said above. A proper set-up with most tuners is around £100, give or take a little.

Starter motors fail due to the fact that they are so close to the exhaust downpipe and turbo. Protecting it from the heat will extend its life, but I have only replaced mine once in 7 years, so the problem isn't that bad.

More recently, I have heat-wrapped my downpipe, which is a good idea.

Like already said, if the starter motor is on its way then get a new one rather than pissing about trying to fix your current one. It would be a good idea to heatwrap your downpipe to minimise heat dissipation and hopefully prolong your new starter motor.

With regrads to lag, 3.5k does seem a bit late for it to be coming on to boost, has it always done this or just recently? Like said an air leak could cause this so check all your pipes for leaks, if there is no leak then a RR session shold be able to point you in the right direction of your problem. A RR session always a good idea anyway m8 just to make sure everything is in order, and money well spent in my eyes.

just while your all replyin i thought of another problem ive got well i fitted vibratechnic engone mounts about 3weeks ago and its actually helped with the juddering but not it all, but when the car idals which is at about 900rpm it rattles like hell , and it sounds like somethin is gonna fall off and theres a rattle from the exhaust which no1 can find well it sounds more like a raspy sound if ya know what i mean, it does it when im goin slow to and when slowing down for a corner at 1st i thought the exhaust was loose which it was where it bolt to the turbo 1 bolt has worked loose so tightend it up but still do it any suggetstions??????

my system is a solid exhaust and doesnt vibrate (well, not that much lol)

ive heard its possible to fit the mounts up side down (this was on a fessie mind)

get some polyurathane exhasut mounts, and see if its touching the wheel well or any thing like that
