cvh that taps, nothing new there then, get your self down to ure local motor factor and buy a set of lifters, cheap as chips and easy to fit, just take off rocker cover, undo M8 nut on follower, lift off and slide out the lifter, sometimes they stick a bit but is no biggy, then drop in the new one and re fit follower, takes about 2 mins a piece so no more than 30 mins all done!!!

Not sure if this bit is true or not but have been told in the past that you need to squeze out the new lifter before fitting, no idea if thats right as ive never done it but any one who can set that bit straight plz do,

Do an oil change at the same time as the lifters are filled by the motor oil, thats why they tap a bit on start with some cars, takes a min for the oil to get in, so no point in running nice new parts on old oil!!!

You can't replace lifters on their own, a worn cam will wreck them in a matter of minutes. They only tap because when the cam lobes become excessively worn they chew the lifters up. The only way to stop it tapping is a new cam and lifter set. You will also notice an improvement in performance.

And you don't need to squeeze the lifters out they meter oil

ahh good point, forgot to mention that, stick ure finger down the lifter port after removing and check the cam for wear, i see where your comming from with the cam wear problem, ive had alot of lifters go on orions and scorts when i was in my teens, so could be either, just personal experience that it was allways lifters with me, never had to swap out the cam

that said, i wa probably just lucky!!

Believe me the cams on these cars wear from the moment they left from the factory. I guarantee on your cars if you take the lifters out the bottoms are dished, which means cam wear. I also bet they had to be pulled out the lifter bores with grips yeah???

Little_Hoss: when you are trying to pull your lifters out, if they raise about 5mm then go tight, DON'f FORCE THEM!!! That means they are 100% fucked and so is the cam, you will have to take the cam out and pull them out of the side of the head.

that'l be ure lifters then, check your oil presure as well, just an off chance but could be low oil presure??? tends to get the top end tapping well, and can leed to much bigger problems!

If its done that little mileage then i will be surprised if its gone. Look for tell tale signs like when pulling the lifters out. If you can whip the cam out and visually inspect the lobes, aswell as measure them up with a vernier caliper. One other thing before you take the rockers off, spin the engine over by hand, rule of 9, and check each rocker arm for play. If when the valve is closed you can feel play in the rocker it indicates there is wear, the lifters are spring loaded aswell and should remain in contact with the cam and rocker arm at all times.

Did you do the alleged running in procedure for the cam?

Hmmmmmm, strange. Them kent lifters are mena be the bollucks aswell, theyre anti pump lifters.

Before you do anything literally get the rocker cover off and see if you can feel any play in any of the rockers using rule of 9.

Actually thinking about it what am i saying its not there they use a different procedure. Right, basically, turn the engine over by hand, start with valve 1, get the valve fully open, and basically then you can check the rocker for valve 8, then watch the next valve to go fully open, and check the one which makes the number up to 9? Does that make sense?

If no good while you have the cover off whip the rockers off and just see if any of the lifters are tight in the bores, and don't want to come out freely. If any i'd be willing to bet its the lobes for cylinder 4.

Don't let it defeat you, the top ends on CVH engines are shocking That cab looks pretty sweet aswell mate liking it a lot

PMSL you can't make the cabby suffer because of the inferior S2
