Default 120mph and hot temp

after me RST have been off the road for bout 1½ month I took her out for a couple a days ago, and today I gave her some beating... and when i reached 120mph I looked down a my temp gauge and the needle were just under the red marker... why cant i keep her cool?? I got big intercooler and 2 8" kenlowes on... I now have moved my fans so they are mounted on the rad insted of in front of the cooler.... good or bad??

cheers

Have you mounted the fans on the rear of the rad? and did they come off the front of the intercooler? Most fans either suck or blow, you may well have them fitted incorrectly.

im having the same probs
car ben off road for 5 weeks as ive been playing with a new big intercooler. took it for a run down motor way last night doing 140 (on clock) and temp gauge is going up to just over half way mark.
ive fitted 82 stat and just fitted cossie fan cut in swith which cuts fan in at about half way on temp gauge but doesnt seem man enough to lower temps to cut out.
this really is anoying me as i just cant seem to sort it out.
rad pipes are very hard though but it doesnt loose water or oil.
could it be head gasket?? how can i check??
sorry to but in on post but help would be nice.
thanks

Hmmm, that seems quite exsesive mate, especially at 120 MPH! Yep, fan's on rad will be better. Hmm, perhaps wire in a manual fan switch whilst u are there, I would check ur rad out tho, as although the i/c covers the rad some air should still get through at that speed it should be pretty cool

IS your Rad in good condition? they fans look pretty lame imo to be fited infront of a GRS assuming they blow and dont suck. mounting them inbetween rad and cooler shuld benefit allot, i think 1 10" (i think thats the size) wuld be better tho!?
it wuld of got so hot at 120 cos uve go tthe turbo under load, was it between 90-120 for a fair few miles? constant turbo use makes it get hotter n hotter etc, also check the header tank cap is in good nick cos if its leaking the system wont pressurise and wont cool!

ive got a grs with twin 10" fans mounted in front of the rad i get the opposite the faster i go the temperature drops right off,it can get a tad hot in traffic, but im going to fit a fan overide switch.
It would be better to put the fans in front of the rad

I got my rad reconditioned and fitted a swirl pot and the water temp has dropped loads Recon cost £60 and swirl pot was £25, well worth it!

Hang on, Don't just assume your standard ford gauge is correct! Could be a faulty sender unit and your car isn't actually as hot as you think! Check it properly before worrying too much.

I personally would have the Fans next to the rad between the cooler and rad, also make sure they are push fans if your fitting them that way they should have an arrow on the top telling you the direction of the airflow.

What rad have you got? Really you want to be running an alloy rad to minimise temps.

Your Thermostat could be stuck aswell as you havn't used it for long. To check get the engine hot and gently put your hand on the water pipe from the top of the engine, if it's cold (or cool) then your Stats closed, it should be the same temp roughly as the pipe from bottom of the rad.

That should keep you going!

tanx for the replyes... I think I have a 88 stat in, and the rad i all new from ford... but I have moved the rad closer to the turbo to fit my cooler... it also gets hot if i drive it hard on small road, wit hard acc and braking all the time... but maybe I should mount a secound temp gauge.. so I can se if the ford temp gauge is telling the truht..
