Default Knocking Problem/Fan Problem

Right, i have a knocking coming from my passenger side front when wheel is turned to full right lock, also, it knocks like buggery when i'm going round a left hand bend above about 40mph, through the steering wheel, it feels like the wheel could be wobbling......but, i've jacked the car up and the wheel is solid when i try to move it....

Anyone got any ideas?

Also, i've got a problem with my fans as well, now, these do not work when the temperature gets hot (as i've had it overheat once), but when i short the fan switch i can hear a relay or something energising behind the battery somewhere but this makes no difference and the fans still don't come on, anyone got any ideas on this too?

And does anyone know a good place to get a new set of 4x4 fans if they are fooked?

Cheers

hello rob,

the knocking problem you got there is I think a drive shaft. you have to jack the car up and see when you turn the wheel forward and backwards if the drive shaft do it to. maybe you can see that the shaft goes up and down. but the knocking problem is coming from a knackerd drive shaft. and more the flexibal parts of the shaft (if you know what I mean).

about the fan problem...check the relais. and check the relais holder maybe its burned a little. or melted.

best regards,

Still not managed to find out what the fan problem is....i've checked the relays and they appear to be fine, using a multimeter there is no power at the fans, but when i short them out i can hear the relay pull in, suggesting that theres power at the relay.... its really baffling me and beginning to worry me, anyone else have an idea as to what could be the problem, cheers

What year is your Esccos. Mine is a 95 and the fans have a fuse sitting on the side of the Batt. connected to the + terminal.

Mines a late 93 model, the fuses look a bit rusty but i've cleaned the contacts up for the time being and this doesn't make any difference, might be a good idea for me to get some more as a matter of course tho.

could be the large green 2speed realy next to the battery - they are mounted upside down and mine had got water inside and rusted all the springs on the relay away and corroded all the contacts. about 30 quid from ford.

Just going back to the knocking problem, mine is doing exactly the same and ive worked out that its the rear drivers side one.
Rob if you havent already, then change it for a XR4X4 one. They are slightly longer, and alot cheaper. I got a front oe from XR4X4 spares.
