Default Gearbox Removal

How does the actual gear lever seperate from the box itself? We've removed the circlip thingy inside the car under the leather gaitor but it still won't budge out of it's holder Surely you don't have to pass the whole gear lever & knob down through the transmission tunnel

what do you want to remove?
the gearstick or the whole cradle?
if it's the stick on it's own you just punch out a pin (the lower one, the upper one does the reverse lever thing) and give it a YANKK!!!!! and it should come out

you may need to wiggle it, just a little bit to get it to come out because it's possible stuck

Oh right we are on the right track then! Yeah it's the stick that we're trying to remove, we punched the roll pin out but presumed that there must be something else holding it aswell with it being stuck so solid But after removing this it should come off then should it?!

Yeah I can believe it mate because mine isn't budging at all! We've managed to get the box out with the stick still attached anyway so it 'should' be easier to free off now hopefully!!

Took as much as we could off up top (gaitor, knob, etc) and eased it down on a trolley jack, that's how

they do tend to stick like buggery
here's a thoght, put some vinegar over it (not lots, but a decent quantity) and it "should" break the seal

What I mean is, they dont usually go far enough forward (ie into third) to come back from the block and past the floorpan..

Put it this way I'll bet you 50 quid you cant put the box back in with the linkage/stick attatched

Nah I won't even be attempting it Damo! Now it's out and on the bench I can, with the help of some swear words I'm sure, persevere with it and figers crossed separate the stick from the box
