Default battery light

took the car out today after fully charging the battery. whilst driving around the battery light would come on but very dim and would then go off again after a period of time, didn't seem to affect the car in any way. i switched the car off and then on again and the light went out but would come on again down the road. just after any info so i can sort out another little problem. The car's getting there just got to get a bit more confidence reliability wise thanks for any help.
( The volt gauge was reading about 12 volt if this is any help )

Alternator, not charging properly, get it checked with a proper voltmeter at any decent local garage... should be around 14V whilst driving..
