Default relay problem argghhhhh

which is the relay for the fuel pump on the escort cosworth as my relays seems to have amind of there own by switching on and off causing the car to stop and miss !

i have had a look at it and it seems to be the two tiny brown relays near the largest relays on on the fuse box.

any1 know what these two brown ones do?

sounds like the fusebox is failing, very common problem on escort cossies, new ones are available from ford for about £200

cheers thats a relief. i saw a receipt for one on a cossie (when i was looking for one) and ford had charged him £550

did yours do it more when the car got hot?

it really only does it after its been driven a while!

i let it cool down for a 1hr and then started again and after 20 miles on the motorway it started up again-just want to make sure it is that.

I think they are the same as a normal mk5 escort mate. So if you want to cut costs then go to any scrap yard

ford said they were slightly different and that the new replacement one had been modded.

wonder if they are the same as the rs2000's?

As said above check number matches exactly.

Had to change mine recently as a fuse kept blowing when i put indicators on. New fusebox cured it.

Also had to have one on an RS2000 which did all sorts of wierd things when it went.

Were you in Morecambe area last weekend?

941ga4a073bab is the fuse box number on my cossie but i have my suspicions it has been changed at some point (susposed to be 96AG14A073BA) , can any1 give me the numbers on theres to compare?

they are stamped (on mine) on the righthand side on top of the fuse box when you unclip it and lower it down?

also there will be a date stamped on it as well.

hi mate i believe the solder becomes hard and brittle and if you use auprated fuel pump it puts extra load on the relay .i had my board repaired and strengthened at a cost of 75pounds .before this was done she let me down at a show due to pump relay faliure i had to bypass tue relay to a permanent feed

it was the fuse box. it gets really hot if your driving at night no wonder the solder brakes! i looked at about 30 cars and most had the boxes taken out of them. must be a bad problem for fords.

When i got my esc cos the fuel pump ran continuous, due to a rewire because of the dreaded fusebox fault.
I have a very helpful auto electrician who remove and stripped the fusebox and resoldered all the dry contact joints.2 hours work and cost me £50 , everything now works as it should with all excess wiring removed.

I had an auto electrician look at it once to do with a different problem to do with the fuel pump. He just shrugged his shoulders and walked away after sorting my original problem
