My parents have had their Monte since new, and it's always been my aim to buy it off them. I get to drive it regularly, and really enjoy it. The time has come for them to move on to something cheaper to run and easier to drive (mid-range Focus, it would seem).

I want to give them a fair price for the car, but it's not in the best shape. I'm really tempted to take it off them, but it needs a fair few bits doing.

It's done about 75k, never been crashed or thrashed, the paint is decidedly iffy in places due to car park scratches and a small scrape on the side skirt. The top of the rear spoiler has cracked and there is rust bubbling under the fuel filler. The interior is fine, apart from the gear gaitor. The engine has a small oil leak at the front and the gearbox crunches if you try and shift from 2nd to 3rd at high revs. The alloys are original, but really corroded. There's probably a few other minor bits that I've not noticed recently.

All in all, a fair bit to do.

Escorts seem to go from Ł9K upwards so that might give you a good bottom line price. Get a price to get the bits done & you could make it back & some.

been a one owner car even with the bits that meed to be done it should sell for at least 12k all day long, if you fix it up it be worth alot more, but deffo keep it mate be worth much more in the years to come

Me too. The number of owners is irrelevent to me, its how its been looked after thats the important part. As said one owner thats neglected it and not looked after it very well is worse than having half a dozen owners thats cared for the car properly, by far.

Id say from what youve mentioned it needs Ł2500-Ł3000 for a proper strip down respray, and at least a grand to sort the gearbox and bits out. Probably worth round Ł11k-Ł12k as it is imo and thats really a guestimate, then you will have it standing you at Ł15k-Ł16k, which wouldnt be bad at all for a monte in good order imo.

Having said that, if it were my parents id offer them Ł8k and tell them thats all its worth.
