Gearbox leaking-HELP.
Just been out for a steady run, parked her back in the garage, and thought, hmm, slight oily whiff in the air! Had a look around the engine bay, nothing.Layed down besides her and looked underneath, there's oil sprayed over the transmission tunnel, just where the the prop joins the output shaft, although nothing on the prop itself.ale: ale: ale:
Anybody any ideas????

It's collecting on the bottom of the gearbox, where the drain point is,and also on the supporting plate. It's not pouring out but i dare say if left for a week, the will be a small patch on the floor.I've jacked her up and crawled underneath, but can't really pinpoint where it's coming from.Definately not red in colour, more like clean engine oil coloured. Is there some kind of seal that goes?

If I remember right there are 2 seals, One on the mail prop where it connects to the gear box & one on the Transfer box. If the Transfer box was leaking it would be red I'd of thought.
Are you sure its not coming from the Bell housing ?? Mine has gone there & I'm sure the mechanic said it was the crank shaft oil seal. The engine oil had gone all over the gearbox

Have you noticed the gear change is more difficult, if you start loosing oil it will get harder to change gear. Wouldn't know how much you have to loose but something to bear in mind.
What I did on mine was get under the car with some degreaser & clean as much of the oil off as possible & go for a drive. That way you know what is new & old. Worked for me.
