Default Fuel light problem

Found out that my fuel light is frequently lighting up although I know that I've got enough fuel in it because I just filled her up.

Problem occurs and goes away without any changes. Sometimes in downshifting, sometimes on roundabouts.

Very strange.
Does anybody have ANY idea???

do you notice that the gauge momentarily starts to drop when the light comes on?

if so you have either a dodgy connection to the fuel gauge sensor or its starting to play up...
have you recently had the tank out to upgrade or replace the fuel pump?

Gauge doesn't drop at all, fuel pressure also stays the same.

Tank has been out but not recently --> about 1year ago.

Strange thing is also that I once ran her completely dry without the light coming on and now this.

Mine does the same thing. The needle starts to drop in mine when the light comes on. I'm going to change the full set up in the tank someday. After changing the fuel pump last year i just can't get myself round to stripping it all down again.

I just took my tank and fuelpump out. Mine does the same that fuel light blinks sometimes even when the tank is almost full and it usually does this till the tank is half full. I looked at the fuel gauge sensor when the pump was off and the surface where it reads the resistance was almost vanished so that's why it does blink the light. But I decided I can live with it

Sender unit...

the guage may not show a difference as it doesnt react as quickly as the light, but it is registering NO resistance, broken sender unit... quite common actually

It does scare the shit out of me though.

Any idea on how to solve this without taking the tank and pump out again???

Or take the bulb out the dash

Personally my car has never been low enough on fuel for me to need reminding by the light anyway

That's the strangest thing.
My car has and then it didn't lit up.

Might have to take everything out again.

This is getting annoying now as it's happening at quit a rate where sometimes my gauge now displays EMPTY as hell.

Might have to take the pump/sender unit out and replace that then.

Does anybody have a FINIS code of what I have to order?
Or can I still order that?

Hi Speedy G

My Fuel light does exactly the same as yours, I only had y tank out last week to fit an 023 pump thinking I could check everything and sort tha problem at the same time. I measured the resistance of the sender unit and it all looked ok but still got the light on most of the time but the fuel gauge works perfectly

Damo probably got it spot on, replace with new unit to fix

Cheers Malc
