Default exhaust comparison test

my friend came upw tih a good idea and is willing to put his car up for the test, what were going to do is ring round al the major manufacturers like blue flame, magnex, GGR, mongoose, and do a back to back with my friends 350 bhp motor, im hoping the manufacturers will be intrested, and im also hoping in this test to outline different DB's for each system, best sounding, best looking, best quality and of course the best performing, does everythink think i should go ahead with this or is it not worth it.

i think it could be very useful. the only think is, his car is a LT, im hoping the results wont differ to far from the ST results.

going to get this rolling in a couple of weeks

Get PF or FF behind you and it will work, otherwise the manufacturers wont "lend" you the exhausts..

i was kinda hoping to do it alone really, due to making it even more time consuming, hopefully they will lend me the systems, i'll be doing this at a well known place so they shouldnt have a prob, id even be willing to leave my credit card number for added security

think its a no go?

i dont think you understand my motives for doing the test adam, another easy way is to gather a bunch of my cossie owning friends and use their exhausts, nearly have the whole list of major manufactuers bar a couple, im not doing this to benefit these companies or a magazine but A) becuase im intrested to know myself and b) it could be useful to people on here and on rsoc

So what you arent going to ring round and borrow them from manufacturers, you are going to borrow them from friends??? WHich is it?

How do you plan to equally test performance/power?

damo if the READ my third post, you'll see that ive realised its not realistic to expect the fat cats to lend me exhausts, obviously my test wont be infinitly accurate as i'll just chuck em on one car and continually test on the rollers, got a friend near hinckly thats willing to do for a few beers his way one evening come on damo bit of support wont go amiss matey it wont be perfect but a good indication from someone who isnt biased or getting a cheap exhaust after a test like some mags do

only doing it to help others come to a decision, and myself for that matter.

Will only work if you use an engine dyno for being able to achieve perfect repeatability. Would also negate having to put the exhausts on a car each time, saving time .

However, I can already tell you the results.

Magnex is best flow, followed by Mongoose. Not sure on noise tests, as this would need to be carried out on brand new items.

Why are you surprised? Most Cosworth exhausts are 3" all the way through, the Magnex splits into two 2¼" sections after the 3" down-pipe, so has a marginal reduction in back pressure compared to the Mongoose / Blue Flame systems.

FYI Mongoose exhausts are now made by another manufacturer, not Blue Flame anymore. However, the design is similar, so I doubt there will be much difference in performance...

i assumed that spitting into 2 sections with smaller bore pipes and also some noise reduction silencers it would create unwanted flow issues, mike do you sell the magnex system and in your opinion, what would you say these BEST system is on the market?

I hate weight, will have to have some new system quite soon, may8be after shell rebuild and I'll want it to be as light as possible. Currently I have straight-through 2,5'' pipe with standard back-box and it's still quite heavy, never seen standard system live but it's probably terribly heavy.

If you think about it though, the bore area given by two 2¼" pipes compared to one 3" is significantly greater, so no such issues arise.

The second picture I posted is actually on my own car and is a heavily butchered (to clear my rear beam) Magnex (2nd hand thanks to MONSTER ), so isn't really a fair comparison on noise or quality, as the silencers probably need re-packing and also it has the early wide 6" x 4" oval, which I believe acts like a megaphone, so it is actually louder than the Mongoose it replaced (but has less back pressure so "should" give better power gains).

I sell all the exhaust makes mentioned on this post, for price / performance, the current Blue Flame system is hard to beat. However, the current Mongoose is better quality, but is more expensive. Obviously the Magnex set-up means it is even more expensive due to the extra material involved in the twin system. You pay's ya money and makes ya choice...
