Default Mk1 Escort Brakes

I have a Mk1 escort running AP 4 pots on the front with cosworth rear calipers & discs.
Bias pedal box with girling master cylinders.

I have been having alot of trouble bleeding which i put down to bad master cylinders which were changed, and now i get a firm pedal but it has a long travel. its near the floor before it has any affect.

They do lock the hubs, but is near to the floor.

i am sure that all the air is out, and have would the rear calipers up fully to take up any slack.

How do you fine tune the calipers or take up the slack when the pads wear.

Any ideas on long pedal travel and the cause.
Need so assistance on what to do next.

Many thanks

had the same problem with mine. do you move the rear calipers to the top of the disc when you bleed them?

Graham this was exactly the problem.....
I swapped the front & rear cylinders as a few people have sugested.
i now have .625 rear & .700 front....works well although not driven on road as its still being rebuilt ,but the pedal has only a small amount of travel.

I did have to lengthen the pushrod for the front cylinder which improved it further still.

Can you explain why lenthening the pushrod to the front improved things..

cheers Graham

Think i need to setup pedal box still a bit further, making sure cylinders are equal when bias is in the centre...dont think its far out..

I know things will improve once bedded in as well....

i think you can buy a dual circuit servo (not cheap though) but a lot,me included just run a single circuit remote on the fronts.

You need to swap back the cylinders. Smaller number always on the front because internals are smaller so it pushes more fluid. On The rear the internals are bigger so pushes less fluid. The 625 goes on the front and 700 rear.
