Question Ford Escort MK1 Track Day Car / Engine Conversion

Hi,

I am in the process of building a MK1 Escort for track day use, the restoration and uprating the chassis and body are well under way but the running gear is where I need assistance.

I need lots of help on what engine conversion route to follow !!

To ensure the car is competitive I am thinking of 250bhp + with plenty of torque, I have seen several 2.0 vauxhall conversions etc but more recently an S2000 one ?

I am in need of advice on engines / gearboxes / prop / axle / performance etc etc etc

If anyone can offer guidance, pro's & con's, do & dont's etc etc on the conversion I will be more than grateful.

Thanks,
Stuart.

don't know if its of any help but im lining up an SR20DET engine from a nissan 200sx for my mk2 escort, 250bhp as standard with 7psi of boost, 14psi is the most that turbo will take but wind it up to 10-12psi and you'll be at 270ish with standard internals, gearbox, injectors etc etc. as for axle i'll be hunting down an atlas axle and all the goodies needed to strengthen the rear end. and a complete 200sx can be had for £1500, nice. hope that helps a bit,

Numerous options. We've had 292BHP and 244LBFT of Torque from a 2L Zetec. If you want boost. YB lump, Pinto Turbo, Rs Turbo lump or even a Zetec Turbo.

We had 260BHP from an Atmo Cossie lump, it was in a FWD mk6 Escort, everything had to have locking wire around it because it all vibrated loose, christ it didn't half go though!

Hi,

Was trying to avoid turbo power - I believe in n/a power for long term purposes !

My thoughts are that a pinto won't be fast enough and the XE needs a lot of money throwing at it for good power ?
The S2000 lump is 235bhp standard and very reliable, a set of throttle bodies can improve further and / or modify the vtec to come in at 5000rpm

Am I correct in my thoughts ?
