What's involved? Is it more trouble than it's worth? My car has a manual sunroof which is fine, but I fancy an electric one, but If it's a ridiculous amount of hassle I won't bother. Anyone done it?
Not a massive job mate, a few guys in our club changed their manual roofs in their RS2000's for electric ones without any hassle.
Just need the motor which will replace the manual winding mechanism, power will be there via the courtesy light and finally the plastic cover for it all.
Piece of piss

So you don't have to buy the whole lot, just the motor and cover. Do you need to drill holes to hold the motor or are they already there?
unfortunately couldn't tell you that mate as haven't done it myself but wouldn't have thought it would be a major job.
I've already got leccy roof and would check for you but she's locked up in my mates paintshop under cover till April

Your hardest part will be running wires for power (you can earth the motor on nearby screw / bolt)
Also consider where you will take feed for power. Im not sure how much grief it would be to retro fit it through the fuse box?

sometimes there not that straight foward, you have to have the compatible sunroof frame, it has 2 have 2 threaed holes in it. SHITBOX had to drop the headlining & change the mechanism, not a hard job though & plenty off escorts in the breakers to get the bits from.
I also ran power from the fuse box ( with an inline fuse ) not hard , you also need illumination for the switch , it's only early mk5's where you will have problems as they have no holes to mount the motor. I found that if the handle surround is small , separate to the sun visor mounts , you will need to change the whole roof mechanism , but if the handle surround & visor mounts are 1 piece the mounting holes will be there. If you have any problems pm me i'll be happy to help
sounds gd im thinking of doing it to my si i have got the roof surround already bought just need to get the motor but a nice wireing diagram would be gd to if any ones got one floating about
I have the whole assembly luckily .
Does it need a relay or will just a fuse be ok ?, if you take the power from the interior light then i assume you don't need an extra fuse ?
Also should the switch illuminate with the lights ??

Cos Jon thats just on the change over , does your sunroof handle suround also incorporate the inner sun visor mounts , or is it small & separate from the visors ? If it is separate you will need to change the whole mechanism. Speedy G I changed the whole lot it's not as hard as you might think
