Default Black Diamond discs and pads are great

The one thing that impressed on the track were the brakes. Cosworths and MR2's were no match in a braking duel. The brakes on the Series 2 are actually good (exept the drums at the rear). I have Black diamond combi discs and Black diamond predator pads, original rear brakes. There was no fading to talk about and my friend who has a RST cab with OMP discs and Ferodo DS2500 said his brakes was garbage compared to mine. His was fading quickly. So I would strongly recomend Black diamond discs and pads. Modulator belts are removed and the brake fluid is Castrol Response dot 4.

there is no way the brakes on a standard escort are as good as a cossie unless you have changed the braking system and not just the discs as you have said.

i take it you have bigger discs as well??

glad your pleased though thats what counts

I had no problems closing distance to Cosworths during braking at the track. Yes, the brakes on RS Turbo are good compared to weight. Better than most cars.

I have been running Black Diamond discs with Mintex pads for the last 10 years.

Not once have they give me any problems.

Fading is caused by pads and fluid mainly though FYI

Yes, and that's why I said Black diamond predator pads are great.

so your saying buy standared size black diamond pads + discs, and my s2, which brakes like a range rover with 2cv brakes at the moment, will stop as good as a new car?

IMO look at the brake system on the car and getting more efficient calipers is the only real way to go to get a good pedal and brakes that actually work, I have never been a fan of the aftermarket grooved discs, especially in standard size.

Uprated pads on the other hand are a worthwhile buy, but not too high heat as once you get them up to heat the discs will fucked

Im looking at the servo/cylinder over this winter, ill be posting details once ive found some parts that work well

why are escorts so dated and why do we continue to spend money on them

S2's have a good size disc for the weight of car - when in good condition, they work very well. Don't get braking power confused with modern cars over servo'd feel.

Yes, and good size calipers. Discs and calipers are from Xr4i which weighs 250kg more and have 15 more hp. Compared to many cars the standard brakes on a S2 are good.

Grooved discs will prevent fading, the grooves will shave the glazed layer off the discs. Performance pads and discs are a good upgrade for RST. I could brake very late compared to other cars like Cosworths at the track. Experienced at the track, were the brakes get really tested.

If you are looking for a brake upgrade, the combination of Black diamond combi discs, Black diamond Predator pads and Castrol Respons dot4 brake fluid is recomendable. You will have alot of fun with this combination on the track. Remember to empty all old brake fluid and air the brakes thuroughly.

no confusion here , the brake 'feel' on an escort is crap and dont want people to think that putting grooved discs will solve the problem.

I'd have to disagree. I have no ABS anymore, which prob does help - my pedal feels very firm. I have done lots of experiments with different sized wheel cylinders, and master cylinders. I tried a smalelr master cylinder - 22mm - and the pedal felt spongier, but u didnt have to press as hard. Gone back to the bigger master cyinder now. My rear wheel cylindes are also smaller than std, which gives a firmer feel.

i have MTEC racing 285mm front disks,DS2000 pads, standard S2 calipers and braides lines on the front, rear is standard except for braided lines. dot 5.1 brake fluid throughout. the ABS is still working and i have a really good solid brake pedal. even on track days they are superb.

I've tried various brake setups, ranging from ebc crap through to pagid discs and mintex pads, the pagid / mintex combo worked well but the squeaky mintex pads became very annoying.

I now run 300MM ST170 discs & calipers with a cossie rear disc conversion, abs fully removed also brakes are really good and stop well The trouble with the spongy pedal feel is usually associated with the master cylinder I think. I have an initial bit of pedal travel but the brakes are nice and firm after this.
