Default HELP GUYS....Peugeot 306TD wont start!!! :o(

Hi guys....need your help please!!!

Drove my car home last night about 20 miles no probs - came to my car this morning.....it would turn over quite happily - just not start. Not even a chug. Odd I thought! Then just before the battery died after a while of trying - it suddenly started out of the blue.

So I went to the corner shop - left it running outside - drove home - parked up - turned it off - immediately started it again - fine no probs.

Then I loaded my car up with a few bits & pieces for an engine change on a mates car....came to start it...nothing...zilch...narda!!!! (

Been trying on and off all day inbetween engine changing - deduced that fuel is not coming out of the pump.

So am I right in thinking that this is one of 4things.....

1.) Knackered diesel pump - rare for them to go but possible,
2.) Pump is drawing air rather than diesel - possibly can be tested by feeding the pump with fuel from a bottle of diesel rather than the tank
3.) Fuel Solenoid stuck - not entirely sure its this as you can hear it click when you switch the ignition on
4.) Possible immobiliser problem related to the pump in some way??

What do you guys reckon in your experience...anything else it could be??? :'( :'( :'(

This car has never let me down up until now!!!

Jump the lives

Could well be your glow plug relay.

Get a jump lead, find the glow plugs, they should be connected by a metal strip/bar, connect the jump lead to it, then to the live on the battery, wait 15 seconds then turn it over.

Give that a go

P.s How exactly have yo uestablished no fuel is getting through?

pps I would put money on it that its your plugs, its got al lthe charactedristics of a plug relay, because when you switched it off, then switched it back on again and it fired up, the engine would have been warm and there would be no need for the glow plugs to do anything.

Dont think its the glow plugs mate - it should still start after a good few seconds of cranking over!!!

Established no fuel by taking off an injector feed from the pump & cranking it over...not even a trickle!!!

Tried jumping it....but nothing!!!

continuously cranking a diesel over is not good, and it won't start withough the glow plugs even on a mild day, trust me. I've had 3, stripped 2 and rebuilt 1.

As for fuel, i don't know about these new fly by wire TD's (presuming it is one) Mechanical pump/electric pump etc etc i dunno

But its worth a shot at least isn't it?

Possible that Your Primer has give up the ghost, the thing that you pump after a fuel filter change, the rubber in em in splits and won't pick up the fuel.

As for glow plugs, my Rover Diesel will start first thing in the morning without out even giving the light chance to come on.

Ford diesels rely on glowplugs, so do Vauxhall diesels, but Peugeot diesels start very well without out glow plugs.

Possibly, mechanical pumps (presuming it is) are a nightmare to bleed, not like an electric pump that will pump air till it gets fuel, mechanical pumps won't pull air till it gets diesel in most cases.

Yeah is mechanical, 306's have the pump driven off the cambelt.

Yup....its the Lucas mechanical one!!

Dont think its the primer as I have cracked open the bleed nipple and used it & its pumped diesel out quite happily.....which also must been that theres enough fuel in it!!

Pulling air through idea.....thats what I'm tryin tomorrow with a bottle of fuel straight to the feed if possible to eliminate any air leaks.

Nope mate....last time I messed with the primer was when I changed the fuel filter....about 5000 miles ago!!!

As I said this seems to be workin fine because I can still use it to prime as I did today!!!

What are you thinking....you got an idea???

Washers that are on the union's can suck in air overnight, if they have been re-used, car just spins over and over had it before. But 5000 miles ago,, im sure it would have done this earlier.

these cars have combustion chambers in the head,as you have been told it is probly the glow pugs, these WILL NOT START like standard diesels due to the head design, false feed the glow plug lead rail as told earlier, plus its the easiest job to eliminate.
the clicking you can here is probly not the stop solenoid so check this next.

IT STARTS.......AND I AM OFFICIALLY A TIT!!!!

Well....as some of you know I picked up Project Pug Trackcar.....it came with a nice new alarm fob where the buttons hadnt worn - so I swopped the internals of my fob into the new fob.....however....I failed to realise that there is a little black object thats very important lurking in there...its called the transponder and it operates the immobiliser!!!! Needless to say that is now where it should be & now its starts quite happily!!!

Cheers for all your help guys!!! Panic over!!!
