following on from my differant way of changing a turbocharger, i will now demonstrate how to change both rear springs in one hour and 30 mins
and that includes coffee and a phonecall
jack car up and do the following:

cut old spring in half using trusty angle grinder and then pull out of its place to give you.....

half and half of a spring - nice and easy
next compress your new spring using spring expressors - if you use some like mine, you will be very scared of them breaking and exploding into a million pieces - i speak from experience

then while the spring is squashed so small that if it does explode, its going to take your face with it, wrap some steel wire round it next to where you have compressed it - give it a couple of winds and tie it off and trim the excess and then slowly remove the spring expressors

slot the spring in place like thus...

then get the big gloves on and the wire cutters and cut the wire one side at a time

and then the other side, but swiveling the spring into its correct place before finally cutting it free

then once its free, lever the rear arm down to spin the spring into exact place.

and now my car sits 20mm higher than previously, my exhaust will love me longtime and my mother will stop complaining at the white scrapes on the driveway at the bottom

i should do some technical articles

spring compressors attacking are nothing compared to.....................
angle grinders.............
made some bonnet lifters on my old XR4x4 using a bootlid gas strut, needed to put a flatside on it, so out with the angle grinder while the gas strut was in the vice, started taking material off and all of a suden it went boooooooooom, blew the angle grinder out of my hand, blew the disc in bits, smashed the head clean off the vice and took the garage window out with it, also had bleeding ears for the rest of the day
lesson to you all - never touch gas struts with an angle grinder unless you want to die

another rough one - when engines attack
had to remove an engine from a bus going to scrap when i was a psv fitter (3 years since), thought fuck it, this'll be made easy - lifted bus up on hetra's (one per wheel, lifting system), then put a hydraulic lifting table under the engine, went round with oxy/aceteline gas cutter and cut everything i cound find, fuel lines, hydo lines, electrics, engine mounts, gearbox mounts, propshaft, and then lowered the table - engine wouldn't come out - bit odd, anyway, couldnt see anything so moved table away, went into bus and while holding onto the seats, started stamping on the engine (was an old Mk2 national so engine flaps on the saloon floor) - engine gave way and landed on teh floor - 4 foot drop - went with a right bang, smashed the sump in bits, split the gearbox bell housing, cracked the block and fucked it totally - i got a right bollocking for that

fooking hell
, are you aware the actual load a spring can release at
on a serious note and being honest idone some stupid things before ( like when igot under the car to see if the driveshaft was in place due to no drive i jacked up 1 side of the car and got my missus to start it and stick it in gear so see it spin or not, luck the driveshaft was fooked ot the car would have fell off the STANDARD ford jack and crushed me
)
the spring compresion wont fook with
btw what spring are they now, standard ride height or still lowered as i was my cossie back to standard on the rear

I did mine 4wks ago now and it toke me bloody ages
But i got the old ones out ok as they were too f!!king low the hard bit was getting the new ones in place and i did use spring conpressers
(and when the slip off the spring they go for miles in every direction
) But i got mine in place and jacked the beam up to take of the presure and then undid them that way ALOT SAFER
A f!!king pain but safer
That remends me i need to have some brake its made up duo to 2 of the bolts letting on (not snapping but braking the nut thats weld into the motor
But i have a Plain
Just need to get the sizes and find someone to make them for me

Those spring compressors are fucking useless for front struts on vauxhalls. Whne you compress it and slide the spring in, then fit the top mount, u try to undo them and you can't because the bit you need to get the stupidly unconventional 12mm socket on is pushed right up against the spring cup

Brom - you got any jobs going?
Ginge - i am all to aware of what happens when a spring compressor breaks - its happened to me once before
and people - yes, i've raised the back end of my car 20mm over what it was previously - it now goes where i want and still has the exhaust when i get there
