Default How to change Rear Springs - the Gracey way

following on from my differant way of changing a turbocharger, i will now demonstrate how to change both rear springs in one hour and 30 mins

and that includes coffee and a phonecall

jack car up and do the following:

cut old spring in half using trusty angle grinder and then pull out of its place to give you.....

half and half of a spring - nice and easy

next compress your new spring using spring expressors - if you use some like mine, you will be very scared of them breaking and exploding into a million pieces - i speak from experience

then while the spring is squashed so small that if it does explode, its going to take your face with it, wrap some steel wire round it next to where you have compressed it - give it a couple of winds and tie it off and trim the excess and then slowly remove the spring expressors

slot the spring in place like thus...

then get the big gloves on and the wire cutters and cut the wire one side at a time

and then the other side, but swiveling the spring into its correct place before finally cutting it free

then once its free, lever the rear arm down to spin the spring into exact place.

and now my car sits 20mm higher than previously, my exhaust will love me longtime and my mother will stop complaining at the white scrapes on the driveway at the bottom

i should do some technical articles
