went to go out in escort today turned key no ignition lights, no windows, no indicators, but hazards work, side lights work, no fuel pump. Power on plug behind ignition key.
does anyone have any thoughts please

 

It does nothing when I turn key to ignition. But will crankshaft starter if I go one click further

Look at the back of ignition switch......you will see " Red heavy wire"....thats the main supply....The heavy Black there is the ignition supply.....back in the day can be poor connection....and.on the main loom plug...check those . Peter

 

Hi thanks for advice I dropped the cover earlier and checked the back of the plug and had 12v as I turned the key round but I didnt check all the where it connects into the loom, what's throwing me is that no ignition, no windows, no indicators no heated screens, no wipers, but I have lights, hazards, horn and the car will crank. But no fuel pump either. I've wiggled wires. Also tried deciphering the haynes manual wiring diagram but no luck

 

Test the Black wire is live with key on....if it is live...then that Black heads off to the fuse box...then via Fuses...but there would be a break off withing the loom as some Blacks are not fused...ie....ignition coil...fuel pump relay.....or has the car had fitted a Alarm...some sparks break into the Black...should not be done....but yes ive seen it back in the day

 

Hi, I checked the power at the back of the ignition plug and was present on them then on the end which plugs into the loom the black one has power on the 1 side but not the other so bridged it and it came on, does seem to generate heat, cant separate the plug must be melted inside, im going to connect the wire outside the plug and hopefully that's it

 

Yes back in the day the very plug you have found did over period of time....over heat inside...as you say cut each side and join outside......good you found it...your proberly find all higher amp items....windows / heater motor / engine Fan / heated screen,......will operate better.now...because that plug has been producing High resistance....heating up ...then low volts.
