So i moved from the UK to Canada 15 ish years ago. The past year I've got the ol' ford bug back and to he honest I don't really want to drive a mustang. I've been looking at buying another escort RST.. imagine my surprise at what they go for now.
None the less. I'm looking in Europe because I want a left hand drive one. Once I locate and manage to find one, buy it and ship it over here.. it seems like a daunting task.
I don't really care about having a highly tuned car anymore. I think it's mostly the nostalgia... Damn midlife crisis Kicking in.Looking for some input on what hurdles I might run into once it's here. Getting it set up correctly, parts etc...
I uploaded a pic of my old XR4Ti I bought when I moved here before the ex wrapped it round a lot post (hence the ex part)
There are people in lots of countries that have classic Fords, my advice would be make sure you buy a well maintained Escort RST with a good service history. The only problem you will find is locating spare parts for it in Canada. You should be able to find a left hooker in Europe which for you would be best.Have you done any searches on social media in Canada to see if there are any Ford clubs whose members have British or European classic Fords? Good luck with it.

I saw someone on FB with a series 2 in the states. I reached out to him but no reply unfortunately. All the group's for UK/euro are for very old Ford's. But it's a starting point at least.
I think parts like oil filters could be used from an old escort gt that had the 1.9 cvh. But then again, one job lot order would keep me set for a long time.
I guess planning and finding a good one is the first hurdle.

I would say Germany would be a good place to start your search as it will most likely be left hand drive. Try Germany E-Bay cars for sale or similar sites I have helped out a guy in New York who has a European Sierra Estate a couple of times with spare parts for it as there are none available there.I have a WhatsApp contact in Hong Kong who has a Sapphire Cosworth which suprised me but as I said people in countries all around the world have classic Fords!!
German cars are usually very expensive. And you'll find a lot of (c)rusty cars that have been made to look good but are never worth their money on a closer look. Plus winters are cold in many regions of this country and salt on the road is the worst enemy of every car.
Spain and Italy might we worth a closer look. I recently saw some MK2 XR2s for sale in Spain. There's many more for sale than in Germany and usually half the price. Spain is much warmer, just be careful with cars close to the sea, especially the Atlantic.

In Britain we have a lot of bad weather as well but there are still lots of older Fords which have been well looked after and not rust buckets, the guy has to search everywhere to see if there is an Escort RST that is a good one and get it bought. My Sapphire Cosworth 2wd was made in 1990 but it was waxoyled from nearly new and in the 26 years I have owned it it has passed 26 MOTs with no rust problems.
