There are people in lots of countries that have classic Fords, my advice would be make sure you buy a well maintained Escort RST with a good service history. The only problem you will find is locating spare parts for it in Canada. I saw someone on FB with a series 2 in the states. I reached out to him but no reply unfortunately. All the group's for UK/euro are for very old Ford's. But it's a starting point at least.
I think parts like oil filters could be used from an old escort gt that had the 1.9 cvh. But then again, one job lot order would keep me set for a long time.
I guess planning and finding a good one is the first hurdle.
