Default Bara Motorsport

So after 95k of hard miles in the saff it was time for a diff rebuild.
After a bit of research and a few phone calls to specialists i soon realised it was a bit of mine field and at my power level and torque 400 bhp and 400 ft lbs, one guy said you need a gripper at that level.
So off i go again to do some more research and asking a few mates what thoughts they had and found out that a gripper although a great diif and a lifetime guarantee is bloody harsh and noisy for a road car.
So i give Bara a ring he asks what power what i use the car for etc etc. I also explain what the diff is doing and send him a video.
Imo a cossie should be a cossie and Bara came up with there uprated ZF type planet gears and a uprated viscous diff unit 240nm.
I dropped the diff off and within the week i have a email with loads of pics saying its finished.
New seals, bearings all set up ready to fit.
I would like to say Bara and Sean (who built my diff) what a great experience i had and they really know there stuff.

I will be busy at the weekend 👍

That looks good I never knew anyone did uprated planet gears
On my last cossie I had once I got it to squat hard I did 3 launches and broke 3 standard diffs, it was the planet gears everytime smashed them to bits, ime they are the weakest bit mate, I bought a gripper off jay after that happened

The weak link is the planets for sure. Mine had so much play it was time for a upgrade before the planets let go and destroyed it completely.
That crown and pinion has not been set up correctly imo.

I didn't like the sound of a gripper as its harsh on corners etc. Great for launches etc tho.
Bara and Sean did a great job

I can assure you it was! That’s called grip torque and a small cwp. The planet gears are week definitely but at a certain point so is the cwp. I’m certainly not the first to do what I did! When I picked up my gripper I said to them will I brake it they said no your strip the teeth off the cwp next

Castrol B373 limited slip diff oil stops most of the noise with a Gripper and most other plate diffs and using a solid spacer correctly sized helps with stopping the cwp failing, instead of the collapsable original pre-load spacer.

Correct as they do this on the atlas axles new bearings set preload torque the strip measure collapsible spacer make new from EN16 refit and torque that nut up FT with some green loctite.

Which when you apply shit loads of power and torque the nut don't move altering the pinion pre load.

Everything can fail for sure but there is always a reason.

Anyway this wasn't ment to be a debate on failure it was about Bara Motorsport and the great job they did for me. 👍

Diff pins are weak, planet gears are weak. I'd expect them to break long before the CWP ( And friends have broke them )

I see this crowd in Serbia offer LSD units that look good, mainly for BMW but they do list 7 and 7.5" too.

no but i dont think mine is very healthy. When i first put it in it was noisy and weaps oil from one of the shaft seals. Its not noisy now. I did a couple of oil changes on it got quite a bit of metal swarf out on the magnetic plug. It didnt look good. Handling wise at speed its awful compared to the standard Ford diff. It doesnt hold a line and wobbles about all over the place.

Anyway i like to do a job properly. So ive got a 6 degree adjustable rear beam modified to take the supra diff. Ive got a nice set of billet gold anodised rear hubs from anembo engineering. I will treat myself to a set of coilovers for christmas and when everything is being swapped over get the diff rebuilt. Then with a bit of setting up it will hopefully handle as well as an old sierra can. Then see mr Martin at reyland for some top notch ap brakes and with sticky tyres it should be a bit of a weapon.

2nd gear on full boost and a hump in the road was all it took to break mine. Car went light the gripped again and no drive. I went the gripper route and a uprated 3.9 CWP and it's not aggressive and the only time I get noise is on full lock reversing in to the garage !
