Default White saph cossie smashed up. Done roundabout A41 Watford today.

Spotted you crawling the car up A41 hazards on with damage to the vehicle. It was just a glance as i went past opposite direction but looked like drivers side front wing, door a and b pillars and bonnet got really messed up.
Hopefully all involved okay 🙏 looked to have taken quite a hit.
I would have stopped but you were on the move.
As I say hope everyone involved okay and you get a good resolution for the saph.
Was it anyone on here?

crumple is good as long as driver and passenger area not too heavily changed, the more crumple the more energy is dissipated.

that would be a right downer especially if its someone that's just taken their motor out of storage to give it an annual run...

Such a shame as that car might have chassis damage by the looks of it 😩

also looks like the saph was going past as it hit the JCB so maybe the JCB side swiped the saph, or squeezed in a gap and didn’t make it 🤷🏻

Old fords are not great for crashing in though, anyone remember the saph that lost it at a cruise and people said some angry resident was glueing stuff to the tarmac to blow tyres out? And the driver was killed, was a right mess iirc from the pictures posted on here.

I wonder how they could be so sure so early on that the plasterboard screws stuck to the road definitely didn't cause the accident?
it looks lke a dual carriageway but if its a built up area its unlikely to be a national speed limit road so probably 40 to 60....but hes been doing a hefty speed to cause that amount of damage !
I once pinballed along a dual carriageway after losing control at 90 ish bouncing off both kerbs and hitting a lamppost and it didn't cause that much damge….and I wasn't injured...

There was pictures posted on here iirc of the screws glued to the road, and maybe even accounts from people who was there.

edit: it looks like the thread has been deleted, but search function “joe slater” and you get some of the aftermath if your interested.

If that goes through an insurance company it will be written off without a shadow of a doubt imo, you can’t get the bits to repair cossies anymore not from Ford anyway.

From what I can see in that picture the door pillars looked fuckered to me and certainly wouldn’t feel the same again even it it was repaired

its worthwhile for them to buy it back from the insurance write off to sell on the parts. that's all that's good for now.

With that amount of damage it will be a write off for certain. All I hope for his sake he has got an agreed value policy and if he can buy it back as well from the insurance company he should be ok. Insurance Companies these days seem to write off cars with damage which years ago would have been repaired. Getting the parts is the biggest problem now with Saffs.
Years ago when I had a 1600e Cortina in Australia It got rammed in the rear by a big lorry which then sent me crashing into the back of a bus. Loads of damage but fully repaired by a Ford main dealer with genuine Ford parts. Those were the days when spare parts were plentiful and cheap from Ford main dealers!!

nowadays folk are less inclined to want to have something that's been badly damaged repaired, preferring just to get another one. I suppose its a little bit different for rarer stuff but a car being a repaired category whatever write off will put of many buyers.
my recent C63 write of wasn't that badly damaged but its easier to take the insurance money and run and buy another .

Best case scenario for that now is to use the parts for a project. No way you will get the parts to fix it even if you wanted to.

Although I know very little about repairing damage my friend has a car-o-liner in his garage at home (and uses one at his work during the day) and I’ve seen him fix thing with lots more damage the the Saff. but getting parts is the problem.

You are right, if he gets a decent pay out and can buy the car back for a reasonable amount ,he can either break it and sell the parts which should give him enough to get something pretty decent or use the engine/gearbox in another vehicle.

What happens if something like this is written off to an extent that is cannot be sold like the cars in scrapyards that are beyond reasonable repair. Can you still buy it back to strip it? I imagine if you weren't injured at scene you could get it recovered home or if it went to a compound you could pay them to transport it back home. Not sure how that works.

it used to be category A write offs that had to be crushed completely wasn't it? and couldn't be salvaged for parts....cat B was parts only but not to be repaired for road use. not sure what it is now....

A and B are still the same, C and D have gone to S and N but have made it more clear cut for buyers and insurance companies alike.

i was always under the impression Cat A cars are ones where the occupants have died inside the vehicle.

or maybe even badly injured because of the bio hazard it produces?
