been to a few track days and many quarter mile runs but is there anywhere that lets joe public pay their fee and do top speed runs ?
my c63 engine and transmission has been remapped, twin secondary decats and derestricted and a standard car can apparently manage 174....

Straightliners have quite a few through the year.
then there's the odd Vmax type event. Although they can be a fairly closed event in some respects. And TBH, after some recent incidents and the idiots involved blaming organisers...they might become even more closed.
Some dimwits owning/driving very fast cars is a recipe for disaster if they cannot control the car or themselves, and know when enough is enough, and to take things in a controlled manner.
People like that will see all sorts of motorsport shut down, and they need to be weeded out from events.

Vmax do this, and also for the less rich folk out there Terminal Velocity do a handful of good events throughout the year.
Would of thought your C63 with those mods would smash 174 mph
Cheers Paul

With the numbers, seems like a short distance ?
Different venues may just result in different distance options.
For consistency's sake, IMO none should run over a longer distance than 1 mile, as it is a recognised standard all over the world. But not all venues could cope with 1 mile so may need to reduce distance.

Sorry issue with my account. for some reason i have 2. *CJ* and this one. Odd thing is this one is the one i use. The *CJ* one i had the name changed to CraigJ years ago but for some reason it lets me log into both. Strange. Ant mods reading you can delete the *CJ* post and account.
Straight liners top speed Tuesdays may be you best bet. There normally run at Elvington airfield near York. I did one last October with the Yorkshire Supercar owners club. Was Ł180 with a portion going to charity.
2 mile runway, Standing 1 Mile to accelerate and 1 mile to slow down. You can keep going once you pass the speed trap but unless you have a Vbox or similar you wont know what speed you hit. Also you still need to stop or you ass will be in the grass, then the trees etc. you get the idea.

There was a C63 estate at the last one and he managed 167 over the mile. No idea on mods or if it was standard.

The day we had was quite damp and it rained towards the end. My last run was 180 in the wet. Traction was a struggle until over 80mph as each time it came on boost it just started to spin the wheels so i had to just set of steady and build up until i could floor it. Going back this year to crack 200.

The rules are a little unclear.
Some state that above 150mph there needs to be a secondary braking system. So not specifically a parachute. In that sense a mechanical handbrake covers. Although it seems a chute is what most recognise. And it largely only seems for actual competition use. For RWYB, never had anyone say anything.
And those same rules would just say it has to be fitted...not that it needs to be used.
But unless the car was a piece of shit on stupid wheels, with stupid suspension and tyres with no brakes on ill handling bits of shit. ( ie, what the archaic drag rules are based around, ancient American drag cars )..not a fucking chance would I have a chute unless I was trapping near 200mph
Seen quite a few videos where it's clear chute deployment has caused the crash....to make me never want one. I'd far rather have a good stable car with good brakes in the first place.
Chutes need to be mounted right for the chassis, and pretty sure they also need deployed correctly and under power, not when already braking otherwise it can upset the car a lot
Although there are also a few small instances where a chute can help pull a car straight if it does get out of shape...and you actually deploy it in time

I'm glad about that because I really don't want to be pulling a parachute at 170 odd mph fook that
lol
