Some state that above 150mph there needs to be a secondary braking system. So not specifically a parachute. In that sense a mechanical handbrake covers. Although it seems a chute is what most recognise. And it largely only seems for actual competition use. For RWYB, never had anyone say anything.
And those same rules would just say it has to be fitted...not that it needs to be used.
But unless the car was a piece of shit on stupid wheels, with stupid suspension and tyres with no brakes on ill handling bits of shit. ( ie, what the archaic drag rules are based around, ancient American drag cars )..not a fucking chance would I have a chute unless I was trapping near 200mph
Seen quite a few videos where it's clear chute deployment has caused the crash....to make me never want one. I'd far rather have a good stable car with good brakes in the first place.
Chutes need to be mounted right for the chassis, and pretty sure they also need deployed correctly and under power, not when already braking otherwise it can upset the car a lot
Although there are also a few small instances where a chute can help pull a car straight if it does get out of shape...and you actually deploy it in time
I'm glad about that because I really don't want to be pulling a parachute at 170 odd mph fook that
