Default Fiesta Mk5 zetec s project

Ok so back in 2017 I decided to buy myself a project car that I could use for the occasional track session.
I think it was about may 2017 I came across a fiesta for sale online. The car was on the other side of the country (about 7hr round trip) so I took a risk to buy it blind and pay a transportation company to collect it and drop it off to my house without me seeing it.

When it arrived I was very happy, completely standard and generally very tidy for an old fiesta. Only a few previous owners and About 140k on the clock at the time but in much better condition than others I had seen with half that mileage.
I gave it an oil and filter change, a test drive up the motorway a couple of junctions and then in 2 months later I went on a road trip to the Nurburgring.

Made it there and back no issues at all, was just over 1200 miles over a long weekend. The car didn't get used much after this so I put it away in the garage ready for the next year.

Looks quite a tidy 1 considering the mls but low owners it’s obviously been well looked after

So what you got planned for it now then. I’ve always had a soft spot for these since they were first released so I’m interested to see what you have got planned for her m8

To 2018.....
One thing I noticed on my road trip was that the brakes weren't that great. I had experienced some serious brake fade at times so I decided that I wanted to change more than just the pads, I found that the bigger calipers from a fiesta st150 were a straight swap for the front.
Brakes felt better after the swap, never experienced brake fade since. However I think this upgrade would really benefit from an upgraded master cylinder to improve things further.
Excuse crap pics

2nd trip over to the ring, again the fiesta was absolutely faultless for the 1200mile round trip

To finish off the year I wanted to get the drivers rear wheel arch sorted, it was slightly worse than it first appeared.
This was done at a bodyshop

Thanks,
I've got a few more updates to upload, to show where the car is now. I'm glad I got it while it was cheap before the prices start rising like the xr models have!

I love mk5 zetec s! I had one back in 2007 and loved it

They handle so well in standard form. If you got some coilovers on it i dont think many other cars out there could out handle it?

A 1.6 EcoBoost conversion would be naughty. Or a K20 conversion

These are a very underrated little car really. Not ever so quick, but the chassis is a peach and the steering/gear shift are some of the very best around at any price point. Ford really knew how to make a car drive at the turn of the century. Hard to believe this is based on the same basic underpinnings of the MK3 Fiesta, which was a pretty poor handler.

They just need a bit more go really. I think a 2.0-litre Duratec would be my swap of choice, preferably with cams and throttle bodies for about 200bhp. Would be an absolute weapon on track.

Funny you should say, I have done an engine conversion but unfortunately not as exciting as an eco boost or duratec engine!
I'm just finding out the few pics I had to upload.
I think its an easy car to drive quick through the bends, great for a beginner like me. I've had a good laugh with it which is what it's about!

Earlier this year I bought this

Purely so I could do this

Got it fairly cheap as the clutch was slipping badly, which didn't bother me as I intended to replace the clutch anyway.
I'm so glad I did it this way and bought a complete car as opposed to just an engine. This meant I had absolutely everything I needed for the conversion and I wouldn't need to source any parts other than service items. Also there were quite a few other parts on the puma which would come in handy as spares.

That will make the fiesta nip on a bit faster.

Is it 120bhp from the 1.7?

Is it just the engine and ecu you swap over for this conversion? Drive shafts and gearbox are the same right?

Supposed to be 125bhp

There is a little bit more to it than some people say on other forums. On top of what you said there is also the entire engine wiring loom, which also goes to the rear abs sensors. 1x engine mount needs swapping, fuel line connections are different and air filter box needs to be from the puma.
This doesn't apply to all conversions but I also needed to re use the puma exhaust manifold. This was because I used a late puma as a donor which had 2x lambda sensors and the older fiesta was only set up for 1x.

The drive shafts and gear box are the same yes, so are Interchangeable. But they have different ratios, because of this I chose to use the puma box and also because the puma donor had done 55k less miles than what my fiesta had done.

Cool project. Didn't fast ford do a mag feature on swapping these engines over. They made it look easy.

Not sure on that mate, I haven't bought the mag for some time now. I'm no mechanic but I've wanted to do something like this for a while so was quite an achievement for me

The aim was to keep it looking as OEM as possible by fitting everything into the fiesta exactly as it was in the puma. which meant no joins in the wiring or cable ties holding things together etc

The only alteration made to the loom was for the front fog lights, as puma's don't come with front fogs I removed the fog light wiring from the old fiesta loom and added it into the new loom. I then just needed to add a fuse and relay into the new fuse box.

A bit unusual for this conversion was the ECU I used. The most commonly used is the TAPE ecu. This is popular as the frp map is transferable to it and only runs using 1x lambda sensor. I however used the DIVE ecu, mainly because it was what came with the puma I had as a donor. The downside to this is that this needs a pre cat and after cat lambda sensor. Which meant I also needed to re use the puma manifold as the fiesta part would be no good. On the good side, this ecu works with all the diagnostic checks so I can read the codes etc if I need to.

Hi, nice job on the rear arch, I bought a Zetec-s 3 years ago and it has the puma engine in it already, the problem I have is the fog light reversing light issue. I don't have the loom to compare. Do you remember exactly what needs doing? I can't put up with the damned fog light warning lamp coming on every time I select reverse gear (actually I just unplugged it) but I would like to have both working as I have even just bought the bonnet switch so that now works too. I do have the ford TIS but it doesn't really help it just tells me the plug I have is correct for the puma(Violet/Yellow) but needs a Violet/Orange for the ZS I think.
