2L 8v DOHC timing chain
Hi all
Has any body done the above task, I thought the task was completed but when i tried turning the engine I noticed there is a bit slackness in the chain. I have put a new plunger & guide and managed to release the plunger. I have double checked all the the timing marks all spot on. I know the plunger will be at its optimum with oil pressure when the engine is running, but I really do not want to take the risk, any light on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Axle

If you have turned the crank through to full 2 turns and your timing marks line up you should be good to go. On engines with chain I like to turn them over with the starter to get some oil pressure up. There's nothing your going to do with now if I remember as the tensioner is a one time deal ?
Hope this helps

There is a little spring loaded piston that once it pops out you can’t get it back but there’s a hole in the engine casting so you can put a screw driver through and it keeps the piston compressed allowing you to take the chain off.
Anyway I think you’ll be fine it will just need oil pressure to tension the chain

the new chain will have bronze links for the timing marks to line up against
you stick the chain on, then do the pulleys up, then rotate the engine a few times for the bomb to pop
once you know the timing marks are all spot on you can then go ahead and start the engine, the oil pressure takes up the slack
make sure you've locktited the timing guide bolts in as they WILL come loose if you haven't
