Default My new (older) car

Hey all, well i felt its time for a change. I have just bought off my mum her 1988 xr3i. It's in a pretty decent Nick but does need TLC

How ever it's first problem poped up to day, it took the car out for a drive and it run lovley, didn't overheat or no weird noises, how ever I pulled into the drive and left the car running. I must of left it for 10/15minutes and i go back out to it and steam was pooring out the bonnet and the temp was up in the red. Now i know old cars over heat but surly it wouldn't get that worm that quick at a stand still???

Looks like a tidy shell. What's the plans for it then?

Sounds like the cooling fan isn't working? I wouldn't have thought it would boil over that quick either, maybe it could do with a bit of a refresh on the cooling system. New rad, flush the block through, new water pump etc.

That really is a lovely Escort Sam!

Once you've sorted the issues and given her a clean and polish, she'll look the business!!

Cheers, yeah to be fair it's in pretty good condition. As for my plans for the old girl I shall get the shell back to original condition and then mechanical wise uprate stuff as the old parts break, and I Sall probably rebuild the engine in the summer when i'm off work.

Your overheating problems sound the same as what I had on my D plater many years ago.

Try a new header tank cap(it may have failed) sort out a new thermostat, if possible go for a lower temp one. Flush the coolant system taking hoses of from the heater matrix on the bulkhead and put a hose to it. Same for the radiator too. For the sake of it i'd be looking at a new fan switch and fitting a new modern fan or 2. maybe a fan over-ride switch fitted on the dash somewhere.

I have found the problem, it was the fan motor was bent so the fan blade hit the rad and couldn't go anywhere
