Default escort van 1.8 TD engine start up

Hi i have just picked up a 1997 ford escort 1.8 TD it has a badly corroded fuse box (i need one for it) But firstly I would like to start the engine without the fusebox in the car, i have gained access to the stop solenoid on the diesel pump under the PATS cover, It has 2 wires going to it. Am i right in assuming that if i run a live and earth from the battery to the solenoid and a start wire to the starter solenoid, that the engine will turn over and start up, I would like to get the motor running and make sure it is OK before i go to the expense of buying all the parts to get it road worthy.

Thanks

Tony

No iirc if the car is equipped with a pats immobiliser then it's a different voltage, you need to swap it for a standard 12v solenoid and then fire it up

I had to do this on my Mondeo Td when the pats threw a wobble on a Friday afternoon when leaving London to head home for the weekend, and it took me 5 hours to get home on the back of recovery wagon, I was so pee'd, pretty sure someone on here gave me the advice to fix it, I remember having to Hotwire the pats module though, was a right mare, I just went balls deep with the wiring as no one knew how to bypass it, but was still left with a none running engine until I got the solenoid changed and wired up.

The fuse box says 1997 on it so I am assuming it is a 1997 vehicle. Where would I find the ECU if it has one? Can I just take out the solenoid and remove the spring and plunger then refit it just to start the engine? Then to stop it I would have to stall it in gear.

what does the key look like, does the rocker cover say endura on it, if it has a ecu it will be behind the passenger kick panel in the footwell, they don't normally like your proposed modification a new stopswitch is only a tenner fella

Yes, just need to feed it with an ignition live and it'll fire right up, unless you need the ecu live too, I couldn't tell you though, cab sound like he should know though.

That's what I intend doing but I need to know what single wire solenoid to use. They are not easy to get here in OZ.

Pretty sure you just need a stop solenoid for a Lucas pump.
