I'd say 25mm max on a road car.

In the years that i've owned my escort I've had it lowered 40mm, 60mm, 30mm, stock height, on various shock sets ups. (don't by cheap shite like g-max or spax)

I'm currently running Koni Adjustable shocks with 30mm cobra springs and it is the best set up i've had by a long way.

G-max is a bit crap a previous owner fitted the kit to one of my RS it's bloody awful. I wouldn't say Spax is cheap shite at all though...

Not necessarily cheap, but my experience with them was shite.
I had a spax kit (shocks and matching springs, non adjustable), Aside from being a very crashy ride, I had the kit fitted for around 5 years, and in that time I had to replace 2 springs and a front shock. Shortly after the other front shock gave up and when I was removing it all I found the one of the replacement springs had a big crack in it! Must have only done about 3000 miles. So it all went in the bin.

Bearing in mind that in that time the car probably covered less than 20,000.

In my opinion, ignore the drop height but go for something that rides well.

I've also had Spax and they were harsh and crashy. I believe we've had a run in with gmax before too and they were even worse.

Best combo I've had is my current setup: Koni adjustables with Avo -35mm springs. Wind the Koni's right down to the softest setting. Mine doesn't even look that low, but the Koni's are the key to a comfortable ride.

I shall have to check the ride height of mine. It is not far off standard IMHO.

It's running on Leda coilovers all round and Nankang NS-2R track biased tyres. It is superb on the road and great on track.

They are very good on track IME. They seem unable to fade, especially for what they cost. They're good on the road as well. However they are a little iffy if driving from cold, but I am referring to the car being driven out of a garage after it has been stood up for a couple of weeks. A hundred yards later and they seem to be fine.

Alternatives to them are the Federal 595RSRs and the Yokohama AD08Rs - the former are very good but do not seem to last and there are issues with them cracking although it is not meant to be fatal.
