Default 2wd Cosworth Front Anti Roll Bar options.

Hi guys, so ive curently got a set of Compbrake Compresion struts fitted to my Cosworth, i fitted them as when i fitted the 17" wheels the tyre caught on the front bumper when turning.
But im getting sick of the CompStruts as they knock and make alot of noise in the car and theyve also came loose where the fasten into the bottom arms before

What other options are out there aswell as a standard ARB?

You shouldn't fit a 4x4 arb to a 2wd car. It pushes the wheels forward and makes them touch the arch on the front.

Normally 17" wheels should be ok on a Sierra though...

You shouldn't fit the front one of an Escort. If you want a 29 mm arb on the front you can use one from a Granada 24v.

Mark the 3drs had two different spec ARB's
H13 (28mm) which gave a low caster angle, and H14 (28mm) increased castor angle by approx 1°
The H14 item worked well, so it was carried over to the 2WD Sapphire Cosworth. I've got a new one of some type kicking around my garage for the last 10yrs, and had a feeling it was H14 which would achieve a fraction more castor which was the preferred way.

In answer to the OP, the decent bladed ARB's will start around £600 plus per end. The fronts normally require a separate bracket welding on the underside of the chassis rails, and you'll need to fabricate some kind of mounting to your TCA's. This won't change your dislikes on the comp struts though (noise, or fear of coming loose). So it sounds like a regular ARB and some uprated bushes would be the way to go for you.

Cheers
Iain

PS if you google H14 cosworth ARB you'll find all the info you need! Folks do complain of the front wheels hitting the bodywork on a 3dr if bigger wheels/lowered etc.

he's got a 2wd car though so the geometry will be different

the 24V had a thicker bar, 29.3mm vs the 28mm for the cossie but it's the same size when i laid them over each other so that's an option

also:

on the rears, fitting the 22mm escos one will give you LOADS of drifting action as it stiffens up the rear a bit too much, but you can use softer shocks unless you are launching all the time

Not necessarily. It depends what springs you use in combination with the ARB. When combining the stiff ARB with soft springs the influence from the arb is much bigger. I run a 21 mm ARB from a Scorpio 24v (couldn't find the 22 mm), and the handling is fine. It's not tail happy at all.
