Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of bother with my s2 rst. I changed the clutch cable and ratchet a little while ago and ever since the clutch often slips when on full boost (12psi ~ 180 bhp) however if I lift my foot all the way off the peddle between gear changes it clicks more often than not . The peddle seems to sit a little high too. It had a cp racing clutch about 8 months ago and the car doesn't get driven hard all the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Did you mean CP or AP racing? What type of clutch was fitted i.e was it an organice sprung plated clutch or a paddle clutch? AP for one (as well as Helix) provide many uprated clutches. I'd be surprised if a 6 or 4 paddle clutch was slipping but then I would be surprised if it was pleasant to use!

The clicking sounds like an adjuster ratchet issue on the quadrant potentially.

 

Hi mate sorry I meant Ap racing cp 2000 - 8 organic it only slips now and then and I can't get a gear unless I fully raise pedal and let it click. It all worked fine until the old cable snapped and I changed that and the ratchet due to one of the little hooks that hold the cable being broken. I wonder if it's because the one I fitted wasn't a genuine ford one.

does that clutch require the mk5 pedal and Modded mk5 quadrant?

 

Studabear is right in suggesting that, cp2000-8 does require mk5 escort pedal/modified quadrant to work correctly.

had same clutch fitted to mine a few years ago, had exact same problems as you, fitted this set up,,,perfect afterwards.


edit to say,,,when do get parts and come to fitting,, take drivers seat out first! much easier to lay on you're back with feet on rear bench! can be fiddly!

Just an update I have fitted the mk5 peddle set up and it's fantastic now

I was.... until I noticed what smells like gearbox oil dripping from where the inspection plate is on the bell housing, looks like time to get the original one rebuilt 😐

 

Typical ford, fix one problem and another pops up! glad you're clutch issues are sorted though!

Are you sure it's the correct qaudrant?

There are 4 different type's on a Mk4, they all look the same but they differ causing the cable to travel at different lengths/pedal push.

Have a look in the groove where the cable sits, they sit deeper inside some of them.

From memory mine was white plastic for RST S2

 

Scott are you running the CP2000-8 clutch now? Trying to find a decent one for my RST but burton dont seem to think it will be enough? :/

No I'm not using same set up anymore, that was a few years ago, I'm on a st170 gearbox now,

Not sure on spec of you're engine, but the cp2000-8 is good for around 170 lbsft
of torque,

The cp2000-35 is actually the one i had now that i think about it! which is good for around 230 lbs-ft of torque and I'm sure that'll be the one you want!

But as said in this thread, it is definitely worth while doing the mk5 quadrant/pedal conversion!
