Escort Cosworth M3NTE TINY update page 13 Nov 15th 2007
Firstly, been down Ford to pick up 80 quids worth of bits

My old gearlever gaitor

Had a new one made by a local trimmer, in leather, slightly shorter too, so it doesnt get screwed up as much as it did before

Stripped the engine bay out to clean all the old waxoil off and spruce up the shiny bits

Injectors have been flow tested and cleaned

Had some bits powdercoated, inlet plenum, Map sensor bracket, powersteering resevoir bracket, throttle cabla bracket and thermostat housing

Difference before and after

Lots of polishing

Battery Tray

O/S Bulkhead

Bits to be sorted

Hockey stucks (Genuine Ford)

New old stock lower bumper grill

Old lights

New ones

All been smoked by me... They are actually darker than the pics show, the flash is too bright to show it really

Ready for colour

All stripped out and cleaned up for inspection... VERY VERY clean IMO, much better than I expected really, its hard to see any real grot as such!!

All Waxoiled again....

Rear lamp surrounds cleaned and polished

The rear spoiler had the usual blisters and bubbles in the paint, so was sanded right back, all bad areas were re-fibreglassed then smoothed and filled

Mirrors

Tailgate cleaned up and polished

New spoiler seal

These two pics show how much mud and dirt was compacted into the front section of the N/S bodykit

Kit off... Again in MUCH better condition than expected really...
N/S/F Sill

N/S/R sill

O/S/F sill

O/S/R sill

Quick clean with some petrol to remove old waxoil (you can see now how poorly painted they are at the factory)...
BTW, the brown patches on the floor pan itself is the old waxoil, not rust

After a good scrub up with a wire brush and some coarse paper, then a quick prime and some stone chip, which IMO Ford should've put on in the first place ..
N/S/R sill

The return lips of the front wings are getting a little blow over also, they are beginning to look a little chipped up and tired

All masked up ready for colour

A couple of quick pics in colour and clear, just after painting, I have taken some of the masking off whilst wet to prevent "tearing" once dry
I will get some more tommorrow...

Bodykit ready for primer... LOOK at the stone chips!!!

After having all my kit off now, I recommend ANYONE with an ECos, get thiers taken off for inspection, also get the arch liners off or if you can, get yer hand under the arch liner at the bottom of the wings near the kit, there was loads of mud and dirt in there when I checked mine... all cleaned out now though ready for waxoil
..
watch this space....

you been busy then Damo Have to say that underneath that bodykit its supprisingly clean and the sills are in excellent condition. Are they the orginal ones or have they been replace at some point?
When the kit was taken off my RST 1 sill was really good condition (like both yours are) but the other side was rusted through badly
Work all looks top quality as per usual Damo, look forward to the updates LOL

Cheers people... I must admit, I was expecting alot more grot than I found... After 10 years on the road and 107k alot of those as a daily driver... I Was pleasantly surprised really... Though I did waxoyl the car when I bought it over 2 years ago, and I have only done about 10-11k in that time
Everthing I have done is stuff I have been wanting to do since the day I bought it... Just didnt want to have the car off the road on a weekend I might wanna use it
.... The way I see it is doing it now, will as Phil says help the car last a good while longer plus the new owner will know EXACTLY what he/she is getting
Andy.. I'd say it is a scenario whereby the car has previously been very well loooked after, its a credit to the previous owner really, when I was looking to buy, I found some in a FAR worse state than this and that could be seen with the bodykit STILL on... There are alot of snotters with alot less miles out there
Rob... Dunno yet .. bit more left to do

Some others from around the car now
Back panel (but of the usual grot around the towing eye but nothing structural luckily)

Quick clean

N/S/R 1/4 panel

O/S/R 1/4 panel

O/S/R chassis rail (above exhaust)

Boot floor and back panel (the slight rust marks are nothing to worry about, simply where the fuel tank rubs)

O/S/R chassis rail (usually above fuel tank)

(from below)

A gallon of waxoyl later
.... Boy I pity the person who decides to clean it all off to paint underneath... thats 2 gallons in and on the car now
The black stuff dripping out the sills and onto the petrol tank is old engine oil, I sprayed into all the crevises before Waxoyl, IMO it will run into areas waxoyl wouldnt usually be able to

Bodykit now in colour (finished it last night at 11 O'Clock :cry
