hello folks, after owning my present s1 for a while now and finally got the engine and mecanics sorted ive decided to do a few track days. however as ive never done any i require any advise, tips that u guys have to offer.
spec of car :-
series one rs turbo
190 bhp reliable 10 psi of boost engine done 5000 miles
poloybushed all the way round
pro alloy front mounted intercooler
pro alloy rad
vibratech engine mounts
samcos
ford motorsport top adjustable suspetion setup
scorpion exhaust
16" wheels and tyres
everything else standard interia etc
the 16" wheels are for the rare disc conversion and im currantly up grading the fronts to st170 set up
firstly, im ordering a new set of wheels and tyres for track day use so what are the best options? i looked at getting compomotives but the prices have just shoot up for some reason so looking at other options.
i have been offered wheels called "pro-race 2" light weight wheels with toyo proxies in 16" for £720 all in,ive never heard of the wheels before and i know proxies arnt bad but are the suitable for track.
also what are the best tyres to go for? full slick? track day tyres so u can drive on the road with them to the event? again looking at the prices i could have 2 sets of goodyear eagle f1 to 1 set of yoko r888. so is it worth the money?
the car is being checked over regarding the toe in-out and all the angles of the wheels by a garage so hopefully all willl be ok.
any other advice would be welcomed, fingers crossed i will be on track at castle combe if i was quick enough to get my application in quick enough.

Dan as your learning just get out there with whatever you have at the moment and have some fun. Once your experience and confidence builds up then start to worry about things like wheels/tyres etc.
Team Dynamics make the pro-race series http://www.rimstock.co.uk/rimstockframeset.htm - then wheel ranges / pro race2. They are under 2kgs lighter than a Compomotove so thats less than 8kgs for something relativly unknown
I think they have a flat back profile so you would need to make sure they clear the calipers. Should be okay in 16" but always worth a check first.
Hope you get an entry as it sounds as though you have everything else in place
What pads are you running ??

Always a worthwile upgrade Danny yes.
Standard pads I guess would start to fade very quickly so fresh fluid and a pad upgrade is a must if your going to start pushing hard

if you want some cut slicks that are road leagl try kumho motorsport they sell rally tyres but the cut slicks will be ideal for the track days, i got quoted around £40 a tyre for 175/60/13
are your shocks coil overs are mc pherson struts?
have you considerd a strut brace?
a bit of advise for the suspension would be dont go to hard or low startoff soft and keep amking changes until it feels rite
if you need any advise on setting it up let me no

NO cut slicks are generally road legal these days
They wont meet the minimum surface area required unless done professionally - then they wont be £40 lol
Moulded slicks are what your after if you need to drive them on the road
