go see wayne at wpe (wacky performance engines) in croydon he got my last cvh to do 163bhp on twin dcnfs at nearly 8000rpm, it was wicked...

if it had 45 dcoes and a better exhaust sytem it would have seen 180+bhp and 8500rpm easily

so quick list
high comp pistons
steel rods
lightened and balanced bottom end with arp bolts and pocketed pistons or fit
high comp pistons /steel rods for reliablilty

phase 4 n/a cam
solid lifters
double valve springs
twin 40s
h&h ignition
head worked by wayne
and engine assembled and set up by wayne with a decent exhaust manifold and system should be around 150bhp but with steel internals and the comp ratio around 11.5.1 you could see around 160+bhp

or ported head, cvh33 kit, and twin 40s and 4-2-1 manifold will see a nice 130bhp and a decent dizzy from h&h will make all the difference

The bottom end - maybe. But the cylinder head sure would have been upset. High revs combined with solid lifters and double valve springs are far more than the CVH was designed for. At around 8k and more the rocker bolts will be pulled out of the head along with the thread.

Will end up like this (what happened around 7k!):

Not always, plus it can be sorted with helicoil or timeserts. I know Marks was an 8k+'er (dont know if he'd helicoil'd or anything) and my previous CVH was an 8k+'er and the rocker posts were untouched (yet on a previous head i'd ripped them out at 6k,lol) so its down to luck tbh. My limiter didnt come in till 9k and i did hit it a few times before i decided to lower it a tad

They were modified as I brought it from a championship race car that was running 185bhp at 8500rpm hence knowing what it was capable off

When I got it it had dropped a valve so Wayne re-cc'd it and brought the compression down from 13.1 to 11.4 and rebuilt it all and tuned it.

It did snap a brand new solid lifter when the new owner brought it and new mans gave him a complete brand new set as they believed it was impossible

I did talk to him when I sold it about roller rockers but so far not needed

Just bought myself a nice xr2 with,

New pistons
All bearings
Lightened & balanced bottom end
HP oil pump
Twin 40DCOE's
Kent cam
Port matched head
Magnex manifold and stainless steel system
Set up and rolling roaded at 130.8bhp

And it's plenty for now. The cars so light but its not really about the speed or power, the noise of the Twin 40s is bliss. A squirt in 2nd through town makes people jump against the walls! Only down fall is its probably good for 25mpg on a good run!

Mine will rev past 8k and its all standard apart from the exhaust and filter.
Mind you it is now noisy as fook and every bearing and lifter is knocking like a bitch.

Do I put the 1.4 back in and rebuild the 1.6 or do the zetec thing and still build the 1.6 but a turbo. Hmmm

Do these still pull produce at 8k?Must need a lot of money spent. obviously mines setup to produce peak power at 6250 so revving or trying to rev past that would be pointless and probably immediate death!

I could only ever get 70 tops in 3rd but over several weeks on the same stretch of road I have gain some pace. I now get 85 out of 3rd and have achieved this by simply standing on the throttle for at to long just to see how far I can push it on stock internals. Rev counter used to see no more then 6600 now say past 8000.

Engine is now knocking like a bailiff lol. Mind you I done 150 round trip in it yesterday and it seems to rev and pull a lot easier. Still fooled and will be rebuilt soon

My old NA Cvh on standard ford efi, produced 130bhp with a cam, superchip, exhaust and filter. More to come from a more wild cam and mappable ignition the tuner said. A ported head wouldve been good too, but i found out about these "snails" people bolt on to the exhaust manifold... Makes it a damn sight faster lol!
