Default Polishing new paint.

My mate resprayed my car for me. Its ready to be returned to me, but he said it'll need a flatten/polish for best results.

I know i'll need a machine polisher, but what product is best for polishing up new paint?

Would G3 be too harsh?

if theres lots of orange peel 2000 grit sand discs will help sort that out, but either way i think youll need something like this to polish it up

Jesus thats alot of money, more than the respray cost me in materials(Ł300 with discount)

saying that, it does have the machine polisher which i wont need. I'll have a look at Meguiars compound that you linked to me thanks.

Well ive got the car back. Ive flattened the paintwork. The paint is very dull now and has sanding marks. Ive got a polisher and gone over it with G3..... It didnt really do much. So ive ordered meguiars 105 and 205 bottles.

The 105 says it'll remove 2000 grit sanding marks, I'll soon find out if it does.

any other pointers or better stuff to use?

Just done my front wing with g3 and its shines up lovely going to go over it now with meguiars finishing polish to get and tiny marks out, remember polishing isn't something that takes 2 seconds you need to put a lot of work into each panel until its at a stage of your liking, go on YouTube and watch some videos on there of how people do it there's hundreds and each person does it differently to suit them and whatever colour it is they are polishing

Yeah i went over one panel a couple of times with a 2k sponge pad and it gave it a slight shine, but no way near good enough. Im more worried i'll burn the paint.

Is it better to use the wool pad for getting these sanding marks out? Its a rotary machine.

All I used over the whole wing I did so far was g3 and a microfibre cloth took me roughly 30 mins but ill be finishing it with the machine polisher on a sponge pad but there's different grades of sponge pads

G3 is a cutting compound used for bringing out wet sanding marks, it will bring a shine but will also leave its own marks, if i use G3 ill always go over that with G10 then a finer compound then on to polish..... its a process of removing the the initial wet sanding marks but you have to go up the grades, not quick and easy but the only way to get proper results...

If you have wet sanded with 2000 grit go over it again with some 3000 grit

This will reduce the work needed for polishing quite a bit

Even go finer than 3000 after the 3000

throw all of your g whatever products in the bin they went out with noahs ark get yourself some 3m fast cut plus you will never use anything again you dont even need to wet it if you dont want to it will bring a flatted panel up in minutes instead of hours we use this on every car we paint

tbh if you dont know what your doing, you will likely trash a new paint job easily.
i'd be inclined to ask your make to flat and polish it for you and then all youhave to do is maintain a new job.

You cant put wax on after fast cut, you need to step down after fast cut to a lesser abrasive polish or your car paint will be hologram city

Yep gotta agree here,,been in the body shop trade 16 years now, owned my own for the last 9 and the 3m green yellow and blue top is all you need,g3 and all the other products meguairs, auto finesse etc are ok for your mickey mouse detailers but the people who know use 3m!

About 100 for the 3 polishes and about the same for the mop heads depending on the discounts you can get,,you will never use anything else again
